Do you not get the fact that Avant isnt the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or even 5th option in the Eagles offense? ... you mentioned Cruz (1st option), Harvin (1st option) and Bess (3rd option) ... Cruz and Harvin are better, Bess just had more TDs, but he also had less yards and 8 less first downs while catching 1 less pass then Avant. (in 2011) |
Davone Bess had 5 TDs in 2010, Avant had 1 TD... |
We get it. Avant doesn't score TDs, therefore he sucks.
So does Desean Jackson (4 TDs), Michael Crabtree (4 TDs) Anquan Boldin (3 TDs), Nate Burleson (3 TDs), Steve Breaston (2 TDs), Antonio Brown (2 TDs).

Jason Avant has 2 TDs in his last 37 games. Are you saying that those players have scored that amount of TDs in their last 37 games? |

It's your opinion that he's a very good role player but the statistics don't support you. In truth he is not a very good role player when you start comparing him to anyone that's lower than the 2nd WR on their team. Jason Avant is proof that if you say a guy is good enough times people will start believing you even if the stats tell a different story. For example, Deion Branch scored more TDs last season for the Patriots than Avant has in his prior 3 full seasons COMBINED, yet people were saying Branch isn't that good or even questioning if he would make the team this year. No one questions Avant or if he would make the team. No one but me. I question whether Avant belongs in the NFL. |

He caught roughly 66% of the throws that came his way in the slot, only dropping 3 of 76 balls and averaged 13.34 YPC and he's 'just taking up space'?

How often does Jason Avant create enough separation from the linebacker defending him 1 on 1 to even warrant the QB targeting him?  But getting absolutely blanketed by a defender only counts when you are not Jason Avant. Jason Avant is immune from criticisms of not getting open. |

What I've learned in this thread is that Calvin Johnson has been no better than Brad Smith and even worse than Brandon Gibson and Robert Meachem this season.

Didn't Buddy Ryan have the same issue with Cris Carter, only in reverse? That is, all he did was catch TD passes? That's why he cut him, and he went on to have one of the greatest careers for a WR in Minny?

I understand. Your point is that over the last 37 games Avant has been terrible because he only scored 2 TDs. By using this logic I came to the conclusion that over the last 5 games Calvin Johnson has been 5x worse than James Jones.
