Legedu Naanee tried out for the New England Patriots today, per a league source. No contract, but told it went well.

He started as a TE for the Chargers earlier in his career. He is a really poor WR from hearing what the Panthers and Dolphins fan bases say but he does have excellent blocking ability for the position and good size.

He ran 4.38 at 6-2, 225 pounds.

***Update***
Quote:
The Patriots recently worked out wide receiver Legedu Naanee, cornerback Zack Bowman, and three other players, according to a league source.

In addition to Naanee and Bowman, the Patriots also worked out running back Lennon Creer, a 2012 undrafted free agent who spent time with the Redskins this past offseason, running back DuJuan Harris, a running back out of Troy who was waived by the Steelers on August 31, and offensive lineman Nyere Aumitare (Iowa).

Its not just the Panthers and Dolphins fanbases. This guy is a massive stiff.

He had a few random big plays in San Diego.

I love his name and his size/speed combo, but he's shown over the years that he just doesn't have the fundamentals necessary to be a successful receiver. And he's gotten plenty of chances to assert himself.

Isn't he an elite ST guy? Or am I thinking of someone else who used to be on the Chargers?

Probably of Kassim Osgood, he's now with the Lions.

I hope the Pats sign him. I hear he's pretty good. Dolphins fans loved him.

This is actually exacty what I came in this thread to post. Laughing

Wouldn't mind signing him. With Hernandez schedule to come back soon, and Fells already obviously here, I wonder how much time he'd actually see.

Naanee sucks. Bad route runner, bad hands, bad blocker, lapses in concentration, questionable football IQ.

Nice size/speed/athleticism but his skills just aren't NFL caliber.

Everything Naanee can do, Matthew Slater can do. I don't really see much difference beyond 2 inches and 10 lbs in size. I'd take Slater as a run blocker over Naanee and their receiving skills are pretty much a wash - though Naanee has obviously had more opportunity.

People see him as a converted tight end and get it in their head that he's a viable "move" option, but that's not the way he plays. He's a WR through and through - and a crappy one. Even his special teams ability is underwhelming.

Still might be better than Fells.

Really happy I'm not the only one who instantly thinks of using him as a 90+ speed tight end in madden when I hear his name...
