I was listening to The Herd today and Cowherd brought up an interesting point. Do you think that Matt Barkley will be hurt by the sub-par career performances of the USC QB's who have been drafted in the 1st round?
If you look at Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, and Mark Sanchez they have all had sub-par careers. So do you think Owners and GM's will look at this and be put off by Barkley? _________________

It shouldn't, because Lane Kifflin wasn't the coach for ANY of those other Quarterbacks. That discussion was brought up in the Miami forum before Barkley declared he was staying and I think it holds no weight whatsoever. _________________ -Proud 2011 Inductee to FF's Miami Dolphins RoH

^ I agree that it shouldn't. Same thing with the "California QB's" stereotype. Aaron Rodgers put an end to that.
Barkley being completely average should hurt his stock though... |

No, it shouldn't Every player is different, and just because they were from the same school doesn't mean they will all end up the same. If they fail, its not because they were a USC QB. _________________

I don't think actual GMs will put any real stock in the 'history' thing. However, they will put some emphasis on the system he currently plays in...and that combined with his overall averageness, will hurt his draft stock. |

Why would Lane Kiffin have any bearing on things. Which good QBs has he developed? He was on the staff for Lienart and Palmer as well. Odd comment. |

Palmer turned out great, he just got injured and fell off...... Just because Leinart failed doesn't mean Barkley will because he is playing under Kiffin, at USC, etc..... _________________

No. Barkley will slip (by slip, I mean late first/early second) because he simply is not an elite prospect. |

It shouldn't. Carson Palmer looked like a potential top 5 QB prior to his injury. Even Leinart showed some promise in his rookie season before injuries took his arm strength away. And that just leaves Sanchez, who was a one year starter in college who might have been decent had he sat on the bench for 2-3 years instead of getting thrown into the fire. _________________

Whether it's fair or not, GM's notice trends like that. It's something he'll have to deal with in the evaluation process and it will hurt him if he can't prove why he's different than the other USC QB's, a couple of whom had better physical ability than he does. |

Matt Barkley is the safest quarterback in the draft. While it may not look like he has superstar potential, at worst you're getting a very solid starter. _________________

As others have said, Carson Palmer looked like an elite QB before injuries ruined his career.
Matt Leinart looked good (for a rookie) and showed promise before injuries and bad schemes ruined his career. |

Yeah. When he didn't have Khaled Holmes at C, he was dreadful. _________________
