Anyways, would be awesome to draft Tyler Wilson. |
Long term. We have seen what happens when one of our starters goes down. And I am not sure that Routt is necessarily in the long term plans unless he restructures. Someone can remind me of his contract, but I was under the impression that is balloons after this season. _________________

I honestly think it shoots up to 8 million for next year. We already practically gave him his guaranteed money so if we cut him after this year he will only be on the books for 500k next year and the year after I believe. _________________

Mikey,
Thanks for confirming. So there will be a decision to make on keeping Routt long term or not and whether he is willing to negotiate or whether Pioli is willing to pay him the $8 million for next year (highly unlikely). _________________

Routt's contract is not really nailed down, at least from what I can see. Here's two different sites listing detailed break outs of his contract, with only a dozen or so conflicting numbers that don't seem to add up.
http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/3183/stanford-routt
| Quote: | The numbers reported by NFL Network's Jason La Canfora are $19.6 million with a $4 million signing bonus.
2/20/2012: Signed a three-year, $18 million contract. The deal contains $6 million guaranteed. Another $1.6 million is available through a final-year escalator. Routt is eligible for annual $200,000 workout bonuses.
2012: $1.8 million (+ $4 million roster bonus)
2013: $4.3 million (+ $10 million option bonus)
2014: $6,299,990 (+ $1 million roster bonus)
2015: Free Agent |
http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/kansas-city-chiefs/stanford-routt/
| Quote: | Contract:3 yr(s) / $18,000,000
Signing Bonus - 0
Average Salary $6,000,000
End Year:2014
Free Agent:2015 / Unrestricted
YEAR |BASE SAL|S. BONUS|MISC. BONUS|CAP HIT
2012 1,800,000 00000000 4,200,000 6,000,000
2013 4,300,000 00000000 5,200,000 9,500,000
2014 6,299,990 00000000 6,200,000 12,499,990
2015 UFA
Notes:
$6 million guaranteed
2012 Roster Bonus: $4 million
2013 Option Bonus: $10 million
2014 Roster Bonus: $1 million
Annual Workout Bonus: $200,000
2014 Escalator: $1.6 million |
So a lot of individual things were the same between the two, like the $1.6MM escalator in the last year, but their totals for each year, and the reported "3yr $18MM deal" don't add up to the individual totals for each year.
However, for the purposes of our discussion, they both agree there is a $10MM option bonus for next year, which means almost certainly that we'll either need to restructure, or cut him. No way do you pay him a $10MM bonus on top of a $4MM salary. _________________
