Right now I'm off working on an oil rig off the coast of LA. The rig has Direct TV but no NFL Sunday Ticket. I saw that it said singleheader on the coverage map, so not sure if I'm gonna get to watch this game or not. Anyone know if I'm gonna get this game on CBS? _________________

I find it hilarious Seahawks fans would rather have Bruce Irvin over Chandler Jones. _________________

I've heard Hernandez has been practicing the past few days and has a decent shot to play this weekend. Do you think he will play a large role? Also, do you think Welker will be used less with Hernandez back.
I found it interesting that some people were claiming that the Pats were purposely using Welker less in the first two weeks. I'll be keeping an eye on this game.
Should be a win for NE. I'll go 28 - 13 _________________ W O R L D C H A M P I O N S '86, '90, '07, '11 |

I don't think anyone knows, or will ever know for sure, what was going on with WW earlier. I doubt it was planned to not use him. His increased looks though are a product of Edelman and Hernandez both getting hurt.
As to whether or not Hernandez plays - a mystery. With the Pats injury report you can hear nothing but good rumours and BOOM, they're inactive, and vice versa. His involvment if he does? Probably big, he's not gonna be kept in to block much and he's a great mismatch. _________________

Those two players might be better players than Chandler, they also play a different position, they're LB's not a DE. |

Haven't seen Irvin play outside of highlights, and obviously this could change, but based on my impression of him as a player from the draft process I'd still take Jones. And that's not a knock on Irvin.
IMO Chandler's likely ceiling is the #1 4-3 RE in the league against the run and 10 sacks per season. Guys with that blend of skills are very rare.
The media always talks about Jones as a pass rusher, and pulls out the JPP comparison ("They're both tall! and have long arms!") but the impressive thing about Jones is his all-around game more than anything. _________________

Chandler is already top-5 among 4-3 ends against the run. Irvin has only been in on 19 running downs and has not made a single stop yet.
It's pretty clear who the better all-around player is. _________________

Teams are averaging 1.47 yards running off right end vs. the Patriots. They are averaging 0.48 yards running up the right end/DT gap vs. the Patriots.
Much of that is due to Chandler's play. Those numbers are #4 and #1 in the league, respectively. _________________

So why wouldn't seattle rather have Irvin? We're not in the market for a player like jones. What we needed was a player like Irvin, who can clean up the coverage sacks and provide elite speed from the secondary PR position. Jones IS a better all-round player. But we didn't need an all around player. We needed elite athleticism and speed from a pure pass rusher, another 4-3 end was the last thing we could use to help this defense. When you already have a stacked dline, you draft specialists to turn weaknesses into strengths. We haven't need to irvin to clean up in the run game, we're still an elite top-3 Run D
So far, irvin is flourishing in the position we're putting him in. I don't think jones would be doing as well in the same role, the same way i don't think Bruce would be a good fit for the patriots as a 4-3 end. It's quite simple. _________________

Living in California, I know you won't get to see it. They'll show the early game and that's it. Sometimes, they'll show the Seahawk games, rarely when Oakland and San Diego aren't playing late games, but it's New England. For some reason, I feel the west coast has a major boycott when it comes to being able to show the Pats. _________________

Agree. It's not really funny. It's just that Seattle needed a linebacker and not a defensive end. _________________
