Just finished watching The Way Of The Gun..I liked it but wasn't crazy about how it ended. I can see why it got just under 3/5 stars on Netflix. _________________

It's interesting. You'll never look at Ned Beatty, the same way. |

| I took my niece and nephew to go see Hotel Transylvania. It was pretty good. It wasn't great, but it was entertaining and the kids enjoyed it. It's not gonna make the list of my favorite 20 animated films of all time, but when it comes to all the animated features that I have seen, this one would rank somewhere in the middle. |

Movies are my savior. Hopefully you find the same enthusiasm. |
I enjoy watching movies, but don't really have time because of school. I'm just hoping to broaden my interests, and movies is something I haven't explored yet. _________________

ESPN 30 for 30: Broke
Very good documentary about how and why so many professional athletes go broke shortly after retirement. Some great stories in there. _________________

I thought it was a damn good movie. Probably the second best 70s movie (behind Taxi Driver of course) I've seen. Burt Reynolds and Jon Voight were so badass. That Ned Beatty scene was a tad awkward. Once that scene began I knew how it was going to end. Ospreys right I don't think I can ever see/hear Ned Beatty the same way again. Watching Toy Story 3 again is going to be a bit strange. _________________

2nd best 70s movie? It's great, but there's all of Coppola's movies to contend with, especially the Godfathers, and the French Connection. _________________

I thought the 70's were a pretty weak era, when it came to film. I liked Deliverence, but I don't know if it would have made my top 20 of the that decade though. Personally, my top 10 of the 70's are:
1. The Omen
2. Star Wars: A New Hope
3. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
4. The Excorcist
5. Jaws
6. The Wicker Man
7. The Rescuers
8a. Zombie
8b. The Boys From Brazil
9. Brian's Song
10a. Smokey and the Bandit
10b. The Aristocats |

The one thing I hated (-spoiler)

I just watched Magnolia for the first and last time. I know it gets a lot of love from critics, so I thought I'd give it a try. I think Paul Thomas Anderson is an unpredictable director. He either makes solid films like Boogie Nights or films like There Will Be Blood, which I despised! Unfortunately, Magnolia turned out to be every bit as bad as I thought, There Will Be Blood was. Magnolia was very, very long at 188 minutes. That didn't bother me. What did bother me was the slow pacing, the seemingly endless cast of uninteresting characters who would pop in and out of each random scene and finally, the ridiculous "event" which seemed to tidy things up in the end. I just don't understand the high marks that this film gets. I thought it was horrible.
The one good thing that I did get from this, was a brilliant performance by Jason Robards. He played a man dying of cancer and in terrible pain. One of the most realistic deathbed scenes I have ever seen. |
