Congrats on the TC and the division Tigers fans, you guys earned it.
Something just popped into my mind, you know what the Trout vs. Miggy debate reminds me of? The Ted Williams vs. Joe DiMaggio MVP year. Williams hit .407 but DiMaggio had the 56 game streak and won. I know it's different times and different situations, but that popped into my mind. Was wondering if anyone else thought of that. _________________ Former Falcons Mod

Any suggestions on how I should get tickets to Game 2? I've bought them online before but can I just rely on scalpers? I'd be looking at the cheapest seats.
No offense to Detroit fans but I go to Detroit multiple times a year usually and it seems tickets are always available, even though it is playoffs. |
I'm sure there will be scalpers, always are _________________

Gotta love seeing Texas go out like that. Makes it a bit easier. Oakland going to present some issues. Hoping Balt gave give Yankees a run for their money.
Really odd AL postseason with Oak and Bal _________________

We get NY. Game 1 tomorrow @ 8 ET.
Rotation: Fister, Sanchez, Verlander, Scherzer, Fister, Sanchez, Verlander
If we can take at least 1 in NY, I think we could finish it off in Detroit. Verlander, Scherzer, Fister back-to-back-to-back will be tough on NY. _________________

Just wondering about next year because a lot of people were calling for Nick C. to be called up...
We have Garcia, Nick, and Martinez that all need to get into the lineup, I'm assuming we'll have Martinez DH and Garcia replacing Boesch in the outfield...
Do you guys see us replacing Dirks in the outfield with Nick? I don't think we should personally. |

I think Garcia doing well just keeps Nick in the minors longer. He could use more time, and likely can come up when Martinez is gone after next year. I would say our OF next year will be Dirks LF, A Jax CF, Garcia RF and Berry or Boesch as the extra OF. I think Boesch has pretty much wore out his welcome though and he likely is the odd man out. |

I could see him going to left and Dirks taking on a Don Kelly-esque role where he is a spot starter and a late game defensive replacement. Or if Nick can just play short that'd be even better, it'd be an instant upgrade over Peralta. _________________

He is probably a worse 3B than Miggy, so he likely won't be able to play SS. I doubt Peralta goes anywhere, mainly due to thin market at SS. |

Here's what I would like to see.
*Let Delmon Young and Jose Valverde walk. Victor Martinez replaces Delmon Young at DH (huge upgrade). What I would like to see for closer is them hand it to Alburquerque or sign a veteran.
*Do something about RF. Boesch better be not be back next season, berry isn't even close to starter material and I'm not sure if Garcia is ready quite yet. Now, DD does have a knack of making big trades. Justin Upton anyone? I'd give up Castellanos, Smyly/Porcello + for him. Might not be enough but can't hurt to call. OF options are kind of slim in FA. Maybe we go after someone like Melky Cabrera? Torii Hunter?
*Bring back Anibal Sanchez. I'd give him a 4-5 year deal at about 12 million per. If we can't bring him back, I like Hiroki Kuroda or Dan Haren. Dempster is a possibility as well.
Overall, team should be improved next season but it will be awfully difficult to get back to the WS.
Oh, and stay the heck away from Josh Hamilton please. _________________

Time to think about next year. Mr. Illitch is such a wild card that it is hard to say if the Tigers will make a big splash or not. His declining health could cause him to make another big move.
Some more obvious moves I think will happen:
Offer G$ a one or two year deal
Leyland will be back for one more year
Boesch is non-tendered
Raburn is non-tendered
Offer arb to Scherzer, Porcello, Fister, Avila, Jackson, and Coke
Peralta's option is picked up
Don't offer Delmon or Valverde
Some question marks and thougts:
Try and lock of Verlander long-term?
Dotel has a 3.5 million club option with a 500k buyout worth it?
Will Garcia and/or Castellanos be up at the start of the season?
What is Berry's role? Also, same for Dirks.
Will Smyly be in the rotation next year?
Who is the closer?
I don't see the Tigers landing Anibal Sanchez. As much as they would like him back I think he makes more money elsewhere. Especially after a great post-season. Also consider that some guys are going to get raises in arbitration this off-season and the Tigers payroll for the rotation will be ballooning as a result.
As crazy as it sounds I would not be surprised if they offer Josh Hamilton a 5 year $100 million deal. Not sure if that is what it would take to get him but I think it is too premature to rule it out. I know it does not make sense but neither did Prince Fielder.
As it stands now I expect the lineup to be this next year:
Austin Jackson CF
Andy Dirks LF/Omar Infante 2B (depending on pitching matchup)
Miguel Cabrera 3B
Prince Fielder 1B
Victor Martinez DH
Andy Dirks/Omar Infante
Jhonny Peralta SS
Alex Avila C
Quintin Berry/Avisail Garcia platoon
Gonna be awesome to see Vmart back. I almost forgot what it was like in 2011. |

I don't think they are going to trade Castellanos unless it was for a king's ransom. Melky is an interesting option. A lot of teams will offer him a 1 year deal despite the PED troubles. |
