Question for the fellas around here that have a better eye towards the draft Whelan I do.
Does Mante look as good as Patrick Willis did coming out? I'm quite the casual college fan and don't have the best eye for talent that is coming to the NFL but this dude looks very special to me.[/i] |

Not even close to Willis and I'm a Teo fan. He'll be alright in the NFL, I would say when Rey was playing well last season that is how I expect Teo to play. So good but not elite...

I'd agree that he's not Willis.
But in terms of Maualuga, I think Te'O is clearly the better athlete and leader. I think Te'O at the next level is probably very good, probably in the elite category, but not 'truly' elite like we see with Willis. I see him in the Derrick Johnson tier of great, but not in the Willis/Cushing (or Lewis/Urlacher in terms of the past) tier.
I think along with Skov and Mosley, Te'O is the best ILB in this class, I grade the three players all pretty closely (assuming Skov can get back to being the way he was as a sophomore pre-ACL & MCL tear).

I'm a huge ND fan and watch all their games (Hokie grad, but lifelong Irish fan), so maybe I can help...
Te'o is a stud and will continue to be a stud at the NFL level. That said, he isn't the athletic freak that Willis is. Willis will go down as one of the best MLBs in NFL history though, so I don't think it's a fair comparison.
Te'o is a nasty hitter and never misses a tackle... but where he has vastly improved is his play-recognition and pass coverage. His play recognition is outstanding; he very rarely bites on fakes and that has helped his pass coverage tremendously.
Don't think he's the next Malaluga; he's not. He's much, much quicker than Maualuga ever thought about being and is in much better shape. He would be a huge upgrade to the linebacking corps. He's a natural MLB but could probably play SLB as well.
He'll be a stud; no doubt about it. Worth a pick anywhere from 11-20. |

Having watcvhed him a few games, i was impressed. No, he isn't Willis, but those guys are once a decade types.
That said, I'd love to draft him, but then comes the next question. Where does he play? And where does Burfict play?
If they can both play SLB as well as Mike, that would leave lots of interesting packages for Zimmer to dial up, once Te'o got up[ to NFL speed.
I would worry though about moving Burfict around so much.

Agreed. He's improved on his coverage this season. Before when his coverage was just Ok, he reminded me more of Good Rey. I say good Rey because Rey's ceiling is Teo, Teo has a much higher ceiling than Rey though.
I would be happy to add him. Although there are some other LB's like Chase Thomas and Jonathan Brown that still intrigue me more at this point...

Agree with most of the comments on here. Te'o isn't the best athlete, but he compensates by going 100% every play. I think he'd be a beast at the 3-4 ILB position, and a solid starter at 4-3 MLB. He's a lot like Paul Pozluszny of the Jaguars; not a stellar athlete, not the biggest playmaker, but he always gets the job done.
I think he's a tad overrated, as I've seen him go 5-10th overall, but I'd have no problem taking him in the 15-20 range.

I wouldn't put that out of the realm of possibility. This team has been playing really bad.
Personally i think they get 2-3 more wins. I'd say they sneak some wins against some of the better teams, but the past 3 seasons have given me no reason to believe that statement. So i think 5-11 is the final record.

Much too early to say that. Jones doesn't have the quickness of Von Miller and there are some QBs who will probably go top 5 so right now I'd guess Jones is in the 6-15 range and Teo in the 10-20 range. With the Bengals schedule tougher after the bye, I don't see a winning record in the cards and we could finish in the bottom quarter of the league, ie around 8th or so in the draft. Worst case would be if we finish below the Clowns. |
