During the season a 5th Round pick is like golddust (see Mike Thomas thread) yet when it actually comes to the draft, picks are thrown around like they are worth very little.
Browns gave a 4th Round pick to move up one spot to secure a player the Vikes weren't even going to select.
Jags gave up a 4th Round pick to move up 2 spots for Justin Blackmon
Jags gave up a 2nd to move up 6 spots for Blaine Gabbert.
Basicall, picks are overvalued until the day where they have to be used, so teams get desperate.
If you think the Pats are unlikely to see a 4th Rounder in this upcoming draft as a result of this trade then you are mistaken.
We have 4 picks in this draft and I bet we come out with 7-8 draft picks. |
Using bad teams to support the claim about draft picks being overvalue isnt a good idea. I agree with you that picks are overvalued by many. I have went around in this conversation with Flacco before and there is no changing his mindset on draft picks. |

That's because first rounders are worth so much more than other draft picks. It's not throwing around picks because they're not valuable around draft time, it's that some draft picks are worth so much more than others.
That's been the general guideline for years. _________________

Oh, I get the TVC but Aqib Talib for less than 4th Round value (due to the 7th in return) is much better value than say, Mark Ingram for a 1st and a 2nd,
Basically, when picks are traded for players, fans go crazy with outrageous claims like a 5th for Mike Thomas is over paying etc. yet when it comes to the draft, 4th and 5th round picks are thrown around like they are worth very little.
My point is that draft picks in trades for draft picks - no one cares, when draft picks are traded for players, they are over valued. _________________ Adopt-a-Patriot '14: Danny Amendola Status: Allegedly Deflating Balls On The Sideline |

Call me crazy but I think this trade is another move that BB will be done coaching when Brady is done. I figured Brady has about 3-4 years left depending on injuries. For years we have seen BB collect draft picks left and right. BB then uses those draft picks for even more draft picks and keeps pushing the picks back every year making it so they have 2 first round draft picks. He is now starting to spend his draft picks more and more. BB is also having less and less draft picks every year. I think he will move on from the Pats and take a few years off until he is offered a full time GM job that he likes. BB also knows that Brady is a huge part of his success because all the other back ups he has had for the pats have been flops. Brian Hoyer is out of the league, Matt Cassel can'y even keep is starting job for KC, Kevin O'Connel is out of the league, and Ryan Malluet has the tools but not the brains. |

Once Brady is gone, it's gonna be lean years in New England. I've already resigned myself to that inevitability. _________________

This is absurd. We are too young right now if anyhing. No problem with trading the pick.
TB will be playing until 2020. _________________ A sunny disposition is worth more than fortune. Young people should know that it can be cultivated; that the mind like the body can be moved from the shade into sunshine. Thine own reproach alone do fear |

Agreed, besides Wilfork the next oldest on D is 28 then Mayo at 26
Mankins is the only olineman over 30 and the rest are under 27
The RBs and TEs are under 25
The WR group is the only group with any age at all. |

Aside from his pick 6 (which came from miscommunication between Wayne and Luck), he wasn't very good. _________________

More Super Bowl appearances pre-Brady than the Ravens/Browns franchise in their entire history. |

Wow good post.
Hard to see why Pats fans are disliked on these forums. _________________
