Personally, I never thought he was that good, Decent player mind you, but certainly not worth what Atlanta paid... not too surprised.

The only thing that surprised me in any of this was that it even took this long for us to show him the door. If we paid people based off of their contributions to the team, this guy wouldn't have earned a penny from us. Ray came to Atlanta for one reason, and that was to rush the passer and create havoc in the backfield. He wasn't able to come up with a single sack up to this point in this season, and frankly wasn't even close. Last year, he somehow came up with 3.5 and even those were lucky. We paid the guy big bucks, and he was only able to be in on I think the number was roughly 30% of the defensive snaps this year, and that's just sad. His head was simply never in the right place, and that right place being football.. he spent all of his time worrying about his boxing career as well as his modeling career.. I mean come on. Thats pathetic. Chatter from inside the locker room was that he never made a point of trying to become friends with or bond with any of our players, that he was always all by himself in the locker room making no effort whatsoever to become "one of us" (Falcons). Dude was a total waste of money, as well as a waste of playing time that we could have given to guys like Kroy Biermann, Sidbury, or Matthews who are our young guys that could have at least been given snaps to earn valuable experience.

Whoever is the next team to sign him, I wouldn't expect much.. either on the field or off of it.

I hope the door hits him on the way out...

At the time it was either this fool or Charles Johnson as the only big free agent DEs that were on the market.. and we ended up getting Edwards at a price that was significantly less than what Johnson ended up getting from Carolina.. and now when we look back at it, I terribly wish that we gave Johnson the money he wanted over paying less for Edwards.. CJ actually is able to get his hands on a QB every so often... Completely unlike Edwards.

Obviously hindsight is 20/20... And we could never have known that Edwards would bust THAT bad... But man did we end up getting the short end of the stick on this one...

Yep smart move by the Vikings. No sarcasm.

Did he just give up after he got paid or what?

Well he did talk a lot about needing a new contract to feed his family or something like that.

But I laugh at that. He was making what? 1 million a year and didn't think he could survive off that? Laughing

He was an average LE playing with a HOF RE and 2 stud DTs. Goes to show

At this point he ain't worth more than the minimum.

He meant in a rhetorical sense with respect to Edwards. As in all Edwards had to do was get his hands on the QB every so often, but he failed to do that.

Cashing out?

Think twice if you want to give Michael Johnson alot of money this offseason.

Depends on what you mean by that comment, although great comparison (on the field). MJ93 isn't that good of a pass rusher like Ray Edwards, but he is 100x more committed than him. It isn't for a lack of effort that he doesn't put up great sack numbers and I think the level of play Michael Johnson is exhibiting now, will be the same after he gets his next contract...

Ray Edwards wouldn't know a Pass Russ move if it bit him in the butt, He was mostly a good run-defender. He always had potential but even in Minnesota there was always something off about him. Glad the Vikings let him walk.

Edit: Misread that. Your right can't rush a lick. Simply an overrated prick who got paid and checked out.

24isthelaw said exactly what I was trying to say the first time.. I guess my own words didn't convey my thoughts well enough. (not the first time I have done that ) Laughing

I know that Charles Johnson has still been a beast since signing that big contract the same off season that we signed Edwards, but I can truthfully say that I personally have not seen enough Panthers games, outside of when they play us or have a national televised game, for me to have said with 100% certainty what I had thought and wanted to say. CJ is a beast, I badly wish that we were able to bring him in that off season.. I wanted us to bring in the local boy from Hawkinsville and a former Bulldog badly..

me too. I love the idea of bringing home guys who are from here because it builds even more fan support in the team.

He was too busy taking half-naked pictures of himself in the mirror and flirting with porn stars on Twitter to make an impact on the Falcons.

I would too if my body looked like that.

I said it when he hit the FA market - someone would overpay this guy, he was stealing sacks in Minnesota because of other talent on that line received so much attention.

Edwards wasnt even that productive in terms of sacks. He has two 8 sack seasons, other than that, he was largely a 5-6 sack a year player. I would expect more from Edwards with Pat Williams, Kevin williams and Jared Allen stealing all the attention away from Edwards. When MN added Allen in 2008, Edwards barely saw an increase in sacks. It wasnt until 2009 and 2010 where Edwards atleast had a respectable number (Cool.
