1. too many injuries on kickoffs.
2. less injuries on punts.
3. how often do onside kicks work? this gives the team a better chance of getting the ball back late in the game, making football more exciting. |
Why not just do away with kickers and punters?
Have the QB or someone with an arm throw the ball as far as they can instead of kickoffs, punts and field goals. |
Or how about a "pass as good as a punt" rule on 4th down _________________

If the NFL is really that worried about head injuries why isn't the latest and greatest helmet standard for every player? Plus with how the kickoff is set up now, most kickoffs are touchbacks anyways. |
it is peculiar that the NFL leaves it up to the players and most don't wear the safer helmets until after they get a concussion. | Right. If everybody was so worried about concussions nobody would wear those old helmets. With how many kickoffs are touchbacks now, there is very minimal injuries on kickoffs. Also, a player can walk away if they dont want to get hurt on kickoffs, quit, retire. A lot of guys don't wear new helmets tell me they are not worried about concussions. |

Kyle Boller would love this idea. _________________

What made me laugh was how it said that, but the replacement for the high speed collisions on kickoffs for the most part would be high speed collisions on punts. | but punts start off with players lined up on the line of scrimmage not so with kick offs. Although that does mean larger players involved in the plays, but nowhere near as many players invloved in the high speed aspect. |

Additionally, you don't have blockers running full speed at tacklers twenty yards away. That's where much of the danger comes in on kick-offs.
I think something will likely eventually be done to change kickoffs, whether it's this or something else.

This seems like more of a Gen topic at this point, since it's really just an idea being floated. I'm going to move it there for now. _________________

They didn't eliminate field goals too... A kicker would still be an important part of the game. _________________

What if the team elects to punt but lines up in a kickoff formation? _________________ I <3 Kate Upton and Ezekiel Ansah, just FYI

My vision of it was a punt in the format of a free kick like after a safety, where the punter actually gets to kick the ball from the 30, not that he's lined up 15 yards behind the LOS which is at the 30. |

They should just have someone yell "FIVE HUNDRED! DEAD OR ALIVE!" and huck it up in the air.
Whoever came up with this idea should step down from whatever position they hold in the football world. _________________

There would have to be a center and a holder. _________________ Kickers are people too |

Honestly, if you like football I have no idea how you can even remotely support this idea. The hits to QBs heads and whatnot, I understand that, and it's different than what this rule change proposes. The 4th and 15 thing is absolutely absurd. It's something a child would make up. _________________

After being around Eric LeGrand, I'm sure he has a soft spot for preventing the injuries that took the kid's livelihood. I don't think there's anything wrong with opening up a dialogue and brainstorming ideas like this. _________________

Oh. I like Schiano.
Let's just put Goodell's head on a spike instead, it makes sense if you don't think about it. _________________

| This is a terrible idea and I hope it never seriously gets implemented into the game. Schiano and Goodell can screw off with this one. |
