I'm thinking that before we decide whether or not to go after Dwight Freeney, Jerraud Powers, Fili Moala and Donnie Avery. Deciding whether or not to keep Donald Brown, Jerry Hughes and Brandon McKinney would be important.
I hope beyong hope that Josh Chapman will be ready next year, but I'm not holding my breathe, maybe we need to bring in someone else and see if Chapman can play both NT and DE in case he can play next year. I understand responsibilities are different but that is why I say see if he can do it. |

Is Brown tied down for one more year then? It looks like we'll be seeing the same RB committee.
Might as well I guess, there's probably gonna be a huge turnover on the OL. Hopefully we can sign/draft some people that can block and not Seth Olsen. _________________

Freeney - It really sucks to say, but I believe that we have to let Dwight walk. In this 34 scheme that Pagano has employed, I just don't see the value moving forward. It makes the picture very clear that we will need another weapon in the pass rushing department, because Jerry Hughes is clearly not the answer.
Powers - Eh, I think it is only worthwhile if he takes a major cut in pay. I wouldn't mind him being on the roster for depth purposes, but as much as I had super high hopes for this kid initially, I believe his highest upside in this league is a CB2.
Avery - If the money is right, why not bring him back? He has proven to be a pretty solid weapon for Luck this season. His hands are still a major question mark, but he has made some big time plays with his speed in Arian's vertical attack. One guy I really, really want us to look at in FA is Greg Jennings. I don't think he will be back with the Packers next season as they seem to be moving forward with their new wave of weapons in Nelson, Cobb, etc. A corps with Reggie, Jennings, T.Y and Avery would be disgusting talent.

I agree with everything you said (including Jennings) except for Powers. The scheme we run is more man coverage based and he excelled more in zone coverage, I think that is why we got rid of every CB that was on the roster in 2011. Because they were zone cover corners. I will admit he wasn't bad in man coverage but it was definitely not his strong suit. |

That's exactly my point.
He was never asked to get physical in the old scheme. I love his ability to react to the play, and I don't think he is a horrible tackler, but I just don't see him being much more than a nickel player for us moving forward.
We need big, strong, tough corners in this defense with Manusky. He unfortunately doesn't fit the description. _________________ Building The Monster |

I still think everyone is selling Hughes short. He has made improvements playing in this new system. Just look at his numbers compared to Freeney's:
Freeney= 12 starts for 9 Tkls, 3 Sack, 1 FF, and 1 PD
Hughes= 6 starts for 35 Tkls, 4 sacks, and 1 PD
It appears to me that Hughes is more comfortable playing in space and has put up similar pass rush numbers. I think we should let Freeney walk and find a pass rush specialist to pair with Hughes. I also want to point out that Hughes numbers are on point with what Jarret Johnson put up last year in Baltimore (16 starts, 56 Tkls, 2.5 sacks, 1 FF, and 3 PD). _________________

At TCU he worked in the 34 scheme, and I had some hope that this transition would maybe spark some fire in his game. I just haven't seen much from him still. I guess I've never been a fan of his attitude, the little things that he does on the field really bothers me.
Ex) The crap he pulled against Hasselbeck in Tennessee. You just don't do that in a close game. He is REALLY lucky we didn't get penalized for that play. _________________ Building The Monster |

Sign him up!!! | yeah, I've heard a lot of players thought that the salary cap would go up significantly and they'd get paid higher then resigning now. But McAfee is the only FA I think should be extended ASAP |
