Not to get too much into the subject, as I believe the Rooney Rule has served it's purpose already, but I would argue that for a candidate the experience of an interview for such a position in itself even if you're not likely to get the job is valuable experience. It's still valuable for Marc Ross to experience an interview if he wants to be a GM eventually, even if it's not going to get him the job.
As for the hire... he seems to be the hot name on the market, so I'm excited for that. It's one of those situations where you just have to trust the respect he receives amongst league circles since his resume isn't exactly clear in detail for fans. By the sound of things, Rex Ryan and his staff will get a year under Gamble to be evaluated. My fear there is that may be a lame duck coach situation with Rex Ryan, but honestly there's not a whole lot I can expect from the Jets next season anyway. Unless Gamble can work some miracles. |

The Rooney rule applies to GM interviews? Is that relatively new?
I knew it applied to HC interviews but hadn't heard of it in relation to GMs before.

2009 they made it apply to the executive positions.

Never doubt the Schefter. He was only 95% certain, not 100%.
