It is. Entirely common. Just a case of the media running with something because they know the fans don't know much about it.

It's very common for players on IR to not attend games...especially if they aren't residing in the area.

Regular season games I can understand that, no big deal. But playoff games? I would think he would want to be there to support his teammates.
