Looking from the outside in, Horton is probably hot competition for Bruce Arians (in case things get rough early on, and the fans/media call for Horton to be promoted). Also, he may not get along with Bruce Arians. | Yeah I was thinking that he is probably sour for not being hired as the HC. I guess it makes sense. _________________

The fact that Arians is pushing out Horton in one of his first acts as HC says a lot about him in some ways. I think it shows poor leadership and a degree of egoism that endangers the team. Sorry to pull an example from my team, but when Rex Ryan was passed over for the head coaching job in 2008, John Harbaugh still brought him back and he was promoted to assistant head coach/defensive coordiantor. Rex was beloved by the players and a lot of them wanted him to get that head coaching job, and so, as with this situation, you could see how there might be potential for some turf issues. But he was also the best man for the job and Harbaugh didn't let him walk. In the end, it worked out for everyone. While he went through some growing pains winning over the locker room early on, Harbaugh is now firmly entrenched at the HC position with us and one of the most successful head coaches in the league. In the one year Rex spent on Harbaugh's staff, we went to the AFC Championship Game largely behind a dominant defense and Rex was finally selected to lead a team on his own, getting hired by the Jets.
That Arians wants to push Horton out (which at least seems to be the case) in favor of the Bowles Movement says something about his willingness to put his own standing ahead of the team. Getting rid of one the best DC's in the game because you feel threatened by him is a dangerous way to start off your tenure. _________________

Even though he'd only be a one, maybe two year rental - I'd love to have him in Jacksonville. Love the attacking style he brings. _________________

Apparently Horton had a "heated" exchange with Steve Keim.
Quote: | For those asking abt Ray Horton I was told he had a heated exchange w/ Steve Keim, thought he was the guy when McCoy took the Chargers job. |

I think they screwed Horton over by not hiring him as the HC and by how they handled the process, but more importantly, Horton feels that way. My guess is after they picked Arians, Horton wanted out and the Cardinals obliged. |

Horton was also a positional coach with the Steelers back when Jimmy Haslam was a minority owner of them. _________________ Cleveland Browns Forum Hall of Fame Inductee |
