Something in that line. |
Flacco is young and has proven to be quite durable in his tenure here. No doubt in my mind we look to lock him up for the seventh year. _________________

If you look back at the various threads on Flacco I've always stated he is a top 10 QB however on the back end of the top 10.
However people are asking him to be paid as an elite QB and how many of them are there in the league ?
4?
So if he deserves elite money that means he is elite ? |
Don't get caught up on the word 'elite'. Look at the contract most are speculating and compare it to the other QBs in the league (and take into account when they signed them). Such a contract puts him about 5th or so, with a couple of QBs just behind him but signed theirs years ago (and thus contract values have inflated since then). _________________

I understand the thought that these high contract numbers are an overreaction to the last 3 games, but the fact is that he was already going to make something in the same ballpark.
The Ravens were expecting it. All you need to do is look at how they structured Haloti Ngata's contract 2 years ago. 5 years, 61million, but of that he was getting 20 million a year for the first two years. Why do you think they chose that structure?
While he may not be a HOF or even elite qb, the marginal savings of 6-7 million a year that we may get a completely mediocre starter for (let alone a luxury guy like Mark Sanchez), isn't worth it. Maybe, we're able to keep Cary Williams with that.... a bigger stretch: we keep Kruger with that. Either way, it doesn't translate to the on-field impact of a clearly above average QB.
Also, Mike Vick got $100 million, and they are on the opposite end of the durability spectrum. Before you say: bad contract to justify bad contract, market value is set by what some desperate team will pay. I don't even think Philly was that desperate when they did that nor were they the dumbest organization out there.

Joe had a very good year and picked the perfect time to get hot as fire.
He has taken his team to the Super Bowl, and will get paid a kings ransom for it. He absolutely deserves it too...
I can only hope it comes back to haunt the Ravens, but I doubt it... _________________

Flacco's Agent Joe Linta should command a 100 million type deal, the kind Eli Manning, Rivers, & Roethlisberger garnered at similar points in their careers.
Settle at 5 Years 90.0 Million to avoid the Franchise Tag process. _________________ I'd Select Ziggy Ansah 1st Overall |

That sounds about right. I think Flacco's agent will hold out for a $100+ deal, and the Ravens are going to want to tie him down for a long time. Works for both parties, while still not being quite at the top level for QBs in this league.
I'd say $110-120m over 7 years. _________________

The Ravens should break the bank for Joe Flacco. (That way they'll have a hard time keeping all their other key players.) _________________
