I'm not. Most of them are terrible at simple arithmatic, let alone complex investments.
The common problems these guys face are:
1) Buddies asking them to invest in some dumb thing they made. That money is usually flushed down the toilet.
2) Spending like they make $5/million per year. Not a problem until they retire. Doesn't take a genius to figure out that if you save $10 million while you play, it will only take a few years to burn through that nest egg. Most of those guys don't know how to stop spending after they stop making absurd amounts of money (and to be fair, this problem isn't limited to NFL players or even athletes - many Americans spend every dime they make, some spend more than they make).
Side note: i always love when people point out how easy it should be save money when you make millions per year. Well, it should be easy if you make 50k per year too. Just spend less than you make. If you make 50k and spend 50k, you're just as bad as them. But this is a discussion for TAST. |
People who make this argument always live in the mystical fantasy world where no one ever gets sick, injured, has to pay for a funeral, has kids, massive cut backs in their profession or any possible event that could affect their spending habits by thousands/tens of thousands of dollars. |
That's what savings and emergency funds are for. It is not hard to save money. What is hard is telling yourself "no" when you think you need something, when in reality you don't. |
I don't see how spending 50k is as easy as spending 30M.
If you make 50k according to lenders you should only get a house worth 150-200k (3-4X your annual wages). If you made 7M/year you can buy that 150k house with a roster bonus rather than over 30 years. If you make 50K that 12 pack of bud light is a bigger % of your income than if you made 7M/year. That new couch you needed is still 2k. what are the odds Russell can get a couch that he needs that is 300k? Because that is roughly the same % of his income as a 2k couch to a 50k income.

he did?..how is he paying those guys to train him them? Jeff Garcia and Marshall than there's some Olympic guy and two other people.

I don't care who's training him, this guy is a complete failure and doesn't deserve another shot. Say he does make it, I'm pretty sure he's going to balloon up again and resort to his old habits. I'm going to be honest and say that I hope for nothing but failure from him. The NFL doesn't need anymore of these circus acts. If he was smart, which he's totally not, he'd try out for the CFL and work his way up because no team in their right mind will give him a shot.

I just looked into it. My bad, he's not bankrupt yet but his house was foreclosed on due to backed mortgage payments. That's my fault for providing bad info. Sorry.

"Her" saying she dated Sanchez doesn't mean she actually did. He/she lied about their entire gender and identity, makes sense "she'd" claim to have dated a famous playboy athlete to make "her" sound more legit.
As for the topic, he's probably just broke. It'd certainly be interesting if he could even hang onto a roster.
