As I've become obligated to say in any thread where other Ravens' fans are dismissing Reed's impact (this year), he's still has a major impact on our pass D.
He doesn't have the picks and can't tackle reliably anymore, but our pass d has done well against top passing offenses with inconsistent pass rush and moving parts at CB. Beyond any statistical measure, just watching the number of deep passes other defenses give up compared to the comeback routes we usually struggle with shows how opposing qbs are hesitant to force plays down the field with Reed lurking.
I'm definitely hoping we get him back on a decent contract. |

Mayhaps an upgrade over FA S Glover Quin? I'm sure the Texans will be making Quin an offer that he wouldn't get elsewhere, but one can dream, right?
I don't like the age and percieved lack of health to play 16 games, but a secondary consisting of Jonathan Joseph, Kareem Jackson, Danieal Manning and Reed would be - dare I say - awesometastic?
The wildcard in all of this - The Jets. Reed's played for Rex Ryan, the Jets will be moving on from LaRon Landry, and pairing Reed would do wonders for a top level secondary with a returning Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie. It would be the instant shot this defense would need to go from pretty good to elite. _________________

Ed, when you guys lose next season, sign a cheap contract with the Steelers and win a Super Bowl with us.

I think there is a big chance he departs in free agency. He's wining over a new contract for a while now.
I say NE, IND, NYJ in that order as possible destinations. I'm sure he wouldn't mind NO but they got Jenkins. _________________ Joe Flacco Meter:

Ed said last year he was thinking of retiring and then didn't. He's a pretty changeable guy when it comes to this decision, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if he did retire. I can imagine him liking the idea of just announcing it after the Super Bowl and walking off into the New Orleans night.
If he actually does play next year, I agree there's a strong chance that it won't be in Baltimore. The Ravens' cap situation is very tough, and as good as Ed still is, and as much as opposing offenses allow him to dictate what they can and can't do, I just don't think the Ravens can afford to give him the sort of money he'll be asking for.
Need to pay Flacco and keep Ellerbe, and there probably won't be much to go around after that. _________________

The old Chargers would have been all over trying to sign an popular player with injury history. It worked out so well for us with Bob Sanders. Just enough to tease me into renewing my tickets. New Office though so hopefully we don't put all our eggs in the Ed Reed will stay healthy for 16 games basket.
I can't see him returning to Baltimore though. They have to resign Flacco and hopefully find a way to keep Kruger. |

Please tell me I didn't just read that.
Jenkins was horrible. Both our safety tandem together, with Harper and Jenkins, were the worst pair of safeties in the league last year.
And you think we wouldn't go after Reed because of them? Hardly. Only reason we wouldn't go after Reed is because Drew Brees is still counting his millions.
Still, I can dream. It would be like 2009 all over again. Sign Sharper, everyone thinking he is washed up, and then BAM. Interception machine.

that would really suck if they lost Ed and Ray, even if they arent as good as they once were, they're still incredible leaders _________________

I keep hearing this Reed to the Patriots speculation and it's silly. Belichick loves him. So what? Ozzie Newsome doesn't? Bill let most of his veterans walk but all of a sudden he is going to break the bank for another teams 12th year safety? If the money is even close there is no way he chooses anyone else over the Ravens. _________________

Ravens should have been ready for a Reed/Lewis type retirement or FA loss.
I could see Reed testing FA but I think he comes back even though he is not what he used to be.
Its going to be hard to replace Lewis and Reed even if the Ravens planned on and prepared for it. |

Potentially, if the Ravens win the Superbowl, we could be witnessing the last games of Ed Reed, Ray Lewis and Matt Birk
So then next year instead of everyone calling us old, everyone's going to be like "ZOMG THEY'RE SO YOUNG NOW THEY LOST 3 PLAYERS!!!!!" _________________ #FireDeanPees...and Chris Hewitt....and Matt Weiss |

The Pats will definitely at the very least make a substantial run for him. _________________

Is there some slim chance that he's a Pat if the Ravens do resign him? |
