Alex Karras, who played defensive line for the Lions and later found even greater fame as an actor, is reportedly suffering from kidney failure and near death.
After reports surfaced on Monday night that the 77-year-old Karras was given only days to live, Lions president Tom Lewand said in a statement expressing concern from the team.

There's a Canadian connection here too, as Karras is married to actress Susan Clark of Sarnia, Ontario. _________________

And now it's official...
| Quote: | | Alex Karras, the rugged lineman who anchored the Detroit Lions' defense in the 1960s, then went on to an acting career in which he starred in the sitcom "Webster" and famously punched a horse in the 1974 comedy "Blazing Saddles," died Wednesday. He was 77. |

Calvin Johnson is making Jerry Rice nervous.
After his 121-yard effort on Sunday, Johnson needs to total 181 yards over the final two games of the season to break Rice’s NFL record of 1,848 receiving yards in a season. Johnson tied an NFL record with his seventh consecutive 100-yard game on Sunday, so totaling 181 yards over the next two games shouldn’t be a problem.
Johnson also became the first player in NFL history to gain 1,600 receiving yards in back-to-back seasons.

2000 yard receiver and rusher in the same season. Would be quite a feat. _________________

Jerry Rice, who rewrote the NFL record book during his 20-year career, said it won’t bother him if Calvin Johnson breaks the record he set in 1995, when he had 1,848 receiving yards.
Rice: “I have 40 records. I don’t mind giving him one. This guy is just awesome on the football field, and it shows his dedication.”

That's the difference between his reaction and Eric Dickerson's.
It's just unfortunate that if Randy Moss had given near the effort that Adrian delivers on a consistent basis, then Calvin would be chasing after his record, instead of Jerry Rice's. _________________

The Lions' Jahvid Best likely has played his last down in NFL. Having failed to find a doctor willing to clear him for a return to football, Best has acknowledged that he's become the NFL's poster boy for concussions.
Best has insisted, however, that retirement talk is premature, preferring to "cross bridges when I get to them." Those bridges now are on the immediate horizon. The Detroit Free Press recently confirmed Best isn't expected to play football again after suffering four concussions dating back to his final year at Cal.

wasn't it Best that the Lions picked with our 1st round pick we traded to them, and then we took Chris Cook early in the 2nd? Cook hasn't been a superstar, but we definitely got the better of that deal.
what else/who else did we get from the Lions in that trade? _________________

it seems as if you ask this question every other month.
you old people.
Yes, we traded back, the Lions got Best, and we got Cook and Griffen.
...tough luck for Best. Hopefully he makes the best career choice for himself. _________________
