I love the story of an underdog. And nothing screams that more than a guy going undrafted and becoming a great player. I was thinking about this though, and started to ask myself who are the greatest undrafted players ever?
A couple of names that came to my mind?
Bart Scott – 11 seasons. – 25 sacks. – 4 interceptions. – 530 tackles
Kurt Warner – 67-49-0 record – 32,344 yards – 208 Touchdowns – 128 Interceptions -65.5 completion %.
Antonio Gates – 642 receptions – 8,321 yards – 83 touchdowns
James Harrison – 64 sacks – 5 interceptions – 29 Forced Fumbles – 451 tackles
London Fletcher – 37 sacks – 23 interceptions – 18 forced fumbles – 1320 tackles
Wes Welker – 768 receptions – 8,580 yards – 38 touchdowns
Priest Holmes – 8172 yards – 86 touchdowns – 339 receptions – 2962 yards
Rod Smith – 849 receptions – 11,389 yards – 68 touchdowns
Warren Moon – 102-101-0 record – 49,325 yards – 291 touchdowns – 58.4 completion % – 233 interceptions.
Tony Romo – 55-38-0 record – 25,737 yards – 177 touchdowns – 91 interceptions – 64.7 completion %
And to go back in history a little, "Night Train" Lane. I love watching video from guys like these. Its important to note though Lane only attended CC for a little bit before quitting to go into the Army.
A guy I think may end up on this list; Arian Foster. |

John Randle a Hall of Fame DT with 556 tackles, 137.5 sacks, 6 all pro selections, an all decade team selection, and an interception was left off the list. _________________

Randle, Moon, and Warner were the ones who first came to mind. Donnie Shell is better than many on the OP's list as well. |

Great list of players. Couple more I would add:
Marion Motley FB, Cleveland: Stud back in the 40's/50's who held the YPC in a game record @ 17.1 until Vick broke it, 50 years later!
John Randle: Pass rushing terror at DT in the 90's
Brian Waters: Probable one of the top 5 OL in the leagure for a decade
Rod Smith: 849 catches for 11,389 yards and 68 TDs. Top among undrafted players I believe |

No idea how I left Randle off. I really dropped the ball on that one for sure.
I'm not sure if someone like Drew Pearson would qualify, but to go from undrafted to being as important as he was to those Cowboys teams is pretty special.
Joe Perry was also a special talent that held the rushing record at the time of his retirement.
Ohhhh and another one I totally dropped the ball with is Willie Brown. Recorded 54 interceptions and made it to 9 pro bowls and the HOF after going undrafted.
And maybe I'm a little biased but I also forgot Jessie Tuggle, maybe I'm biased because he's a Falcon but he went undrafted and wound up with 6 interceptions, over 1,600 tackles, and 21 sacks.
Some of these guys may NOT belong I'm just putting some names out there for discussion.
Also, sorry about putting this in the wrong section earlier I was unsure. Thanks for moving it though. |

Hard to argue against what Warren Moon did in the NFL and that's without the massive numbers he put up in the CFL the 6 yrs prior 21,000+ and 144 TD, 3 grey cup titles.
Warren Moon – 49,325 yards – 291 touchdowns – 58.4 completion % – 233 interceptions. _________________

This is very easily Night Train. _________________ Geno Smith, Tavon Austin, Stedman Bailey, and Bruce Irvin will all have at least 1 pro bowl season each by the end of the decade.

It's alright, I understand how you can miss a guy or two as the only reason I remembered he was an undrafted player was from watching the 98 Vikings Americas Game Missing Rings episode. As for the question Kurt Warner might be my answer, really can't go wrong with anyone on the list but him and Randle are 1A and 1B for me _________________

Warner easily. If it weren't for him entering the league at age 27 and suffering loads of injuries he would be in the thick of the GOAT conversation IMO.
He turned the ball over a decent amount but like Favre he made enough big plays to make up for it. Plus, his playoff rating in 10 points higher than his regular season rating.
No brainer for me. |

Definitely thinking Warner in the lead for this.
Randle is a good choice as well.
Always loved the Priest too. _________________
