On Branden Albert -- He has no plans to report for any non-mandatory portions of KC's offseason program.

The 28-year old reportedly wants a long-term deal.

The Chiefs used the franchise tag on Albert and have been exploring a trade for him around the league, they are looking for a 2nd round pick an additional late round pick aswell.

Yeah he won't be there until it's mandatory. And I'm sure at this point he feels like it's more likely he may be traded rather than get a long term deal in KC.

That's just an excuse

Right now he's missing the walk through basically the formations shifts audibles and protections

Nothing physical is happening only mental

Only physical stuff is happening: Strength & Conditioning. No other coaches are allowed to interact with the players on the field right now - they can't even observe the S&C sessions.

According to Reid a they did was scheme protection and sbifts

"We really didn't go over plays today," Reid continued. "That's not what we did. We mainly went over philosophy for the offense, we talked about formations, motions and shifts. The protections that lead up to being able to put in the actual play. You only have them for a few hours so tomorrow we'll start on the plays. It gives the players an opportunity to take their books home and then they can look at the next day, stay a day in advance in their playbook of the plays that will go in."

I thought since Reid is a new HC, they are allowed to start classroom type stuff now. He did say on NFLnetwork last night that they talked about philosophy with them yesterday, gave them their playbooks, and gave them homework for today's review of plays/formations.

http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2013/4/2/4173904/branden-albert-future-deadline-chiefs-trade
From NFL network interview:

Quote:
His future in KC "Nothing's clear yet." Albert wants a "definitive answer" on his future and has not received that from the Chiefs brass.

There IS a deadline between him and the Chiefs: "Right now we have somewhat of a deadline. I'm not gonna speak on it." So what is the deadline? Makes me wonder if this is at all related to John Dorsey saying they will decide on the No. 1 pick four days before the 2013 NFL Draft.

Almost a new deal last year: "In the middle of the season, we were negotiating. ...things happened, and I'm in the situation I am now."

Got the important parts to me listed above.

The time table and supposed deadline is interesting. It's hard to believe that Albert and whether we can get him traded has much bearing on who we draft as much as if we could get him signed long term. Getting him signed long term would be the first step, and if that fails, then we try to trade him, or accept that he most likely will be gone after this year. The latter scenario would mean we'd almost surely be looking for an eventual replacement.

Its a pretty good excuse. If he gets injured, he's untradeable. Leaving us on the hook for 10M.

Honestly if he is going to be traded I would tell him not to come. Injuries can happen at any time, look at Jason Peters.
