This. I feel bad for the kids. They were at an all time high, now they're probably on a bad low.

a bad low? no way in hell they are shocked or caught off guard by this

Doesn't make it hurt any less.

Enfield could have done better

how can he have done better this season?

I dont see any big program firing a coach and the sooner he goes to a team the sooner he can start recruiting.

I think USC can be a good fit for him. not a great team but not a horrible team. They will really improve it will be because of him because because of the program.

"Build your own program up"

You mean like taking a program from non-existance (not hyperbole, actual non-existance) to the sweet 16?

And if USC isn't good anyway, he can rebuild them.

Why not strike the iron while it is hot? His stock is never going to be much higher.

http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/9125796/practice-video-shows-rutgers-basketball-coach-mike-rice-berated-pushed-used-slurs-players

Quote:
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- In several dozen hours of video of Rutgers mens basketball practices obtained by Outside the Lines, coach Mike Rice is seen hurling basketballs from close range at his players' heads, legs and feet; shoving and grabbing his players; feigning punching them; kicking them; and screaming obscenities and homophobic slurs.

Quote:
[Rutgers athletic director Tim] Pernetti said that Rice would attend anger management courses and "a monitor" would watch his behavior during practice. Murdock said it was unknown whether Rice took the course and that "a secretary from the athletic department" watched the practices.

For his part, Rice told reporters he was trying to control his emotions. "I'm not holding back as far as my energy or my passion or my intensity," he told the New York Post in January. "It's just, I'm being smarter. I'm being more under control. I'm developing as a coach and a teacher. This is going to be the best thing for me."

After Rice's suspension, Murdock said current players had told him there was only slight improvement in Rice's manner during practices. Murdock said that one player was so angry with Rice that he refused to shoot during games during the season's homestretch.

"He came in and he choked the life out of the team -- he took their games and their confidence away," Murdock said.

After this season, Pernetti gave Rice a vote of confidence. "Of course he's coming back," Pernetti told The Newark Star-Ledger in March. "It's been an interesting year to say the least, and while I think in one case some of the progress -- and there's been a lot of progress -- doesn't show, and that's in the win-loss column. I would like it to show there. I think everyone in the program would. I know Mike and the players would. But you can definitely see us getting better."

Shame on Rice, shame on Pernetti, shame on Rutgers.

He better.

Also, this is ironic:

Yeah, Donors will probably pull out and force Rutgers to fire him. That or the national media a la Mike Leach.

It does not appear that he would be fired. After the media storm I think that might change.

I love LBJ's tweet on the matter:

If my son played for Rutgers or a coach like that he would have some real explaining to do and I'm still gone whoop on him afterwards! C'mon

lulz, pathetic.

Someone with some power and that has rank and isnt as expendable as "a secretary from the athletic department" should have watched practices, like one of the various AD's or someone from compliance.

The longer that guy sticks around the worse off that program is gonna be. Now that it is out there I would not be surprised if players on their team demanded immediate and unrestricted transfers to other teams if that guy is still the coach. If I was a parent of one of them I sure as hell would.

Rutgers needs to get out in front of this (even though they are already miles behind) and just get rid of Rice ASAP. Control the PR hit as much as possible.
