UPDATE: Jairus Byrd signed his tender via bills text message.

Byrd Will Not Report to Training Camp this Weekend

Quote:
The Bills and Jairus Byrd have not made progress on a new contract, and he will not report to St. John Fisher College this weekend for the start of training camp, two sources with knowledge of the stalemate have told me.

Byrd, a two-time Pro Bowl safety, technically is not staging a holdout and cannot be fined for missing practices because he's not under contract. He's the last of eight NFL players to have not signed his franchise tag.

Its stuff like this that makes me upset and makes it hard for me to side with Byrd. With this new CBA what good does it do to holdout of training camp? Deadline already passed without a deal. Get over it. What is he trying to accomplish, we can't sign him till a multi year contract deal anyways. Just sign your tender and collect your 7 million. Everyone else you was tagged did. Is trying to receive a 1 year 9 million dollar deal really worth hurting yourself and your team? He is doing no good holding out but trying to prove a point. I could understand skipping out at OTAs to get a deal but once the deadline had passed he should of signed the tender. He is showing that he is not a team player.

This is on case where, I have to agree with the player. There is no reason why he isn't under co tract long term, his numbers and play speak for itself, and we have the cap space. The Bills again dropped the ball and we are gonna loose another player we successfully developed, which is still a common theme under RW.

I see your point that he should be signed but what good can come from holding out at this stage?

Nothing. The deadline is past. Get over it and get your [inappropriate/removed] in camp. He is just holding out cause he is upset.

I'm guessing they won't get a one-year contract signed until after camp. I don't think Byrd will wait past week 1 though.

He better get in before that. He has a whole new system to learn. He can't even get a playbook because officially he is not on the team.

This is just stupid, if he holds out or not is irrelevant because he can't get a new contract until the season is over regardless. He's just pouting and throwing a fit because he didn't get the money he wants yet.

Come in, play your [inappropriate/removed] off, learn the new defense, and prove you're worth the money.

What's so hard about that? This is just a stupid holdout that's a complete waste of time, because it's not going to help him get signed long term.

Less chance of injury if he doesn't report to training camp.

Why wasn't Anderson cut earlier and money given to Byrd before a deadline

Having enough money was never the issue. The Bills were willing to give Bryd approx 7.5-8 mil a year whereas he was looking for I believe over 10mil per year. The Bills have the money to pay him that much, just weren't willing to.

We offered deals that would put him in the top 5 in terms of safety contracts, he doesn't want top five, he wants the #1 contract. Which right now he needs to show up, do his damn job, and prove he's worth.

If he wants to throw a tantrum, fine. But he can either sit at home and make nothing, or he can show up and earn his franchise tender money and showcase himself to the rest of the damn league then.

This is just a stupid, petulant, arrogant, selfish decision and I have lost a LOT of respect for Jairus as a result.

Once again Parker is acting like his player is the best in the league. Byrd yes your good but your not the best. You dont deserve more then 9.2 million a year. your worth 8 million stop being greedy and get back to work. Your starting to make yourself look bad for other organizations if you do decide to go somewhere else. Long term has come and gone now work for a pay check this year and prove to people why you deserve over 9 million a year.

this.

there's not too much pay off for him to be at training camp day one. for no good reason whatsoever, i think he signs somewhere before the third preseason game so he can get some playing time in.

I think for every pre-season game he misses we should bench him for a game. No one is bigger than the team. He should never have missed the Colts game. Searcy and Williams are capable of starting.

I was impressed but lets not jump the gun this early in the preseason. Byrd is a huge upgrade at FS. I agree thought, what I saw from them two was great for their first game. I've liked what I've seen in camp from them as well.
