Just get Lovie an even average OC and they'll be fine.

So you are going to hire him as head coach but not give him the ability to chose his own coordinators?

Lovie has never shown any ability on the offensive side and that includes hiring offensive sided coaches.

with Lovie Smith you will make it to the playoffs, you will always have a good defense,

In only 5 of 12 seasons as a DC or HC has Smith had a top 10 defense (by points allowed and also by yards allowed). That's the same number of seasons he had a bottom half of the league (16th or worse) defense.

His entire reputation is founded on the 2005-2006 seasons when he had Briggs and Urlacher playing at an All Pro (or close to) level.

He was terrible at developing offensive talent and hiring coaches for offense. His in game management and adjustments aren't anything special. On defense, he's a decent coach but badly overrated. High end defensive coaches should be able to have quality units even when they lack great players.

For a team like Tampa who is a high quality QB away from being a solid playoff contender, Lovie Smith is a terrible fit as a head coach IMO. He might be able to get that D in good shape - but I highly doubt he will be able to find and develop a franchise QB. They need a head coach with a vision for the offense and a solid DC. There's plenty of talent to work with on both sides of the ball, but without a good mind for the QB position, that team is going nowhere.

I think the one thing Lovie will bring is consistency. You may not be in the playoffs every year, but you'll be competitive and in games, and be at least around 8-8 every year.

If they get Lovie the NFC South may give the NFC West a run for it's money for best division in football next year. As long as the Falcons bounce back.

Agreed. Could not understand why nobody hired him last off season.

If it's true Tedford is going with him it's a great hire. Tedford is 10x the OC any of the ones he had in Chicago were, other than Martz.

Because he's a defensive coordinator masquerading as a head coach. The offense will be neglected and horrible while he's there.
