Offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride likely to be fired by #Giants, source says

The former San Diego Chargers HC has served as the OC for the Giants since 2007. He held the position during both of their recent Super Bowl runs.

Wonder if this will actually cause Coughlin to step down.

I would imagine they would try to go after Norv Turner as a replacement.

Yup. I am almost 100% certain if (hopefully) Gilbride gets canned, Sullivan is brought in as the new OC. Already is well respected in the organization, and he has a great relationship with Eli.

Let me give you my personal opinion, on what I think has happened.
It all started with the release of the coke machine in Brandon Jacobs.

Go after Norv at a time when there could be some pretty decent-sized turnover on their OL (particularly the interior OL)? Not that I'm complaining, but do they have a death wish for Eli?

I read an article that Sullivan was seeking the head coaching position at Army. Also TB had it's fair share of offensive woes as well. Is he really the man for the job?

The Giants owner even seemed to point fingers at his offensive coordinator when asked about third-year wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan, who made his first significant contribution as a Giant in the final two games of the season.

“I’m not sure why it took us three years to find out Jerrel Jernigan could play. We finally put him in the game and he starts making plays,” Mara said. “Sometimes you have to put younger players in the game and give them a chance to fail, or succeed.

^ This little tidbit here is interesting. I always assumed it was Coughlin holding the younger players back from getting snaps on the field. Seems like Gilbride might have been the guilty party as Mara points out it shouldn't take 3 seasons to get a young WR involved in the passing game.

^ I think Coughlin wants to hire someone he knows. Sullivan.

My first thought as well. Somewhere, Buddy Ryan is smiling.

Oh no doubt. I'm sure it's part of the deal he struck with Mara. Probably some sort of requisite. He will let KG go if he gets to choose his replacement.

Classy move by the Giants to let him go out properly instead of canning him in the public eye
