Curious to see who they hire. I'd be surprised if Philbin gets the axe after a GM search, it'd be kind of late into the process.

Truly amazing he lasted as long as he did. One of the worst GMs in recent history.

He was the favorite for every GM job last year. I think you can find multiple threads from last year saying Report: (Insert Team) to hire Tom Gamble as GM. I know there was definitely one for the Jets.

The guy must be the worst interview ever.

His understanding of the salary cap was a huge turn off from what I read

Thank god.

Also, I find it funny people think this means the end for Philbin. It is VERY likely he gets one more year, because Stephen Ross thinks very highly of him.

Philbin's gone son. He's lucky he salvaged this season after that whole 2 month Richie Incognito debacle or else he would have been gone earlier.

This is pretty big for Dolphins fans down here. Ireland is a hated figure down here and he's pretty much the local media's scapegoat for all of the Dolphin's troubles. That said, I think he did try and cared a lot about making the roster better. He did score s number of big name free agents (some who panned out, and some who didn't) and when you think about the roster now, it's not really all that bad. I do do agree that a change was needed considering he's had a pretty weak draft record. I think the right GM can get the 'phins over the top (aka into the playoffs and perhaps some wins there).

You say this now. Just wait until Stephen Ross decides that Jerry Jones and Mike Brown have set a fine example as owner/GM hybrids, and wants to follow in their footsteps.

I'll be okay with this if the new GM fires Philbin.

Wanna bet? I'd be absolutely shocked if he's canned at this point.

For better or worse, pretty much all the signs are pointing to Philbin getting another season. Numerous sources are reporting Philbin will be the coach in 2014. Stephen Ross likes him a great deal, and if he wanted him gone he would've been fired before Ireland or Sherman (Ross probably pushed the issue here). Unfortunately this may hurt the GM-search process and Philbin runs the risk of being a lame-duck unless he has a good season next year. The only way I see him getting fired before next year is if a GM interviews amazingly but is adamant about firing Philbin... but this is doubtful.

Also I find it funny you say he "salvaged" the season after the Martin/Incognito thing. You realize that entire debacle had nothing to do with why we were losing and went 8-8? We were on a 4-game losing streak before Martin left the team. After it happened, we won 5 of our next 7. If anything our team improved because of it.

Like what Rome was saying today, that's the guy you want to work for. He won't even "fire" you. Even if you suck.
