So all he had to do is go up there and give generic answers with no specifics?

I don't understand why he just didn't do that to save himself some money but I understand that not talking and being generic are about the same thing.

If it wasn't a rule to do interviews/talk to media, how do you think players in the NFL would respond? I think there would still be plenty of people who would want to talk.

you think he might not like answering questions because he is self conscious?

Or maybe he's not a confident public speaker?
I actually think after he went on Real Rob Report and fans called him out for how he talked he did shy away from the camera a bit

Good for him, write that fine off as 'breakage' and win over the fans with your game. Like Seahawks fans would give a crap that he snubs the media?

He knows the rules. You talk to the media because it's a part of your job that pays you millions. It's stupid that he would blow it off.

Pretty much this.

Guessing he argued that he has a legitimate anxiety about speaking in public and doing interviews.

He didn't. The League decided that as long as he talked to the media he wouldn't pay, and if he doesn't, they'll fine him $100k next year for a transgression.

He also announced that he'd donate $50k to charity regardless.

Action speaks louder than forced interviews.

It's an obligation but you can't be fined for saying as little as possible:

Q: " How did you think your defense played this game? "

A: " Great. "

Q: " What do you think you can improve on as a team going forward? "

A: " Everything. "

Q: " Who would you prefer to face next game? "

A: " Anyone. "

Q: " How does it feel to be one game away from the Super Bowl? "

A: " Awesome. "

My favorite from the past week:

"How loud was it in there Marshawn?"

"Loud."

"Can you elaborate?"

"Really loud."

Laughing

This. I remember seeing him in an interview once, and it wasn't pretty. I think instead of subjecting himself to more ridicule, he decided to just stop/avoid all the media.

Jamaal Charles is the same way. Though I think his situation is an actual speech impediment, which actually may have hurt his stock during draft interviews with GM's/coaches mistaking it for him being dumb.
