I liked Bennett, Olomu, and McBride at that spot. Now that we have Diggs, passing over Olomu is fine, but I thought Bennett would have been a good pick. Maybe I missed it, but is there some sort of issue with him? If there isn't, I don't see why you pass over a guy that could contribute rotationally as a pass rusher for a fullback.
Not sure what's up with McBride either |
According to some teams, they thought Bennett was undersized and wasn't sure of his position in the NFL. I also heard some rumblings of a possible injury on twitter, although I don't know how accurate that is. But he dropped like a high-fiber turd. |

Love this pick. Burton was a good player at Rutgers and is a great athlete that should be one of our better ST players
also fits the high character mold, high work ethic, was a captain at Rutgers and sounds like a growing leader
I was going to include him in my last mock as a UDFA after taking Jalston Fowler in the mid rounds, but had a list of like 40 UDFA's so I just didn't include that part

For Bennett, apparently teams were questioning his size and whether he would be able to translate to the NFL level. Basically a "Good college player but..." syndrome.
As for McBride, the reasoning that I heard was that he's got a bit of diva to him. That and competition are the only two knocks against him. |

Pretty good fullback.
After Cooter took over as OC we pretty much stopped using a FB so he hasn't seen much action in a while.

He's been one of the better fullbacks in the NFL in his time here. He can catch and can be decent on short runs. Though, if over-used in a predictable manner, his short yardage effectiveness can be terrible (see: how he was used here with Joe Lombardi).
As a blocker, he has been really good here. I'm a fan of your OL coach Jeremiah Washburn (I think he was the scapegoat here for things outside of his control), so he should be a fit for your offense. I'm not sure how much you guys will plan to use him, but if used properly he could be a solid contributor. He won't be as versatile as a John Kuhn and he won't go out there breaking off facemask's, but he's a solid lead blocker that gets to the hole in time, gets to the right spot on the defender the majority of the time, and does a solid job finishing his blocks.
If the Lions had any intentions of using a fullback he wouldn't have been cut. He's worth a roster spot for sure, he may even make some contributions on special teams for you guys as well.

Thanks man, I'm of the impression that we plan to use him like Shanahan used his FB in Atlanta, run blocker that you can flex out to TE at times, and that you can utilize in the passing game for cheap chunks of yardage off play-action. I like that he's only 25.
