Hey, those are both of my boys, Rob and Al.
I'll say it again. Al Harris is all business and that's what I love about him. I take a lot of guff from my coworkers about him, but I laugh because I know how important he is to the defense. Can you imagine how he'd shine if we had a defense who played the game the way he does???
And, kudos to Rob the reporter and my childhood running buddy. My keen ability at judging talent must have rubbed off on the old boy!
Damn, that article's gotten me all fired-up for the season opener! |

| Do we detect a tad of optimism in Hauchild? :) |

| Of course he's going to say Al Harris can be one of the best in this league, that's his job. I know he's a good corner and I don't want to dampen your optimism, but I've never heard a coach say about a team's #1 CB,"This player isn't that good or he has a lot of work to do." |

| true but Jim Bates has said that he's excited to work with a lot of the guys here but never said "he's one of the best i've worked with" at his position |

Optimism? Don't know about that. We'll be decent. Our offense won't be as potent, but I don't see how our defense could be any worse than last year. Sliding a bit on offense is nowhere near as major as improving the defense.
I'll say 9-7 tops, at this point. |

| Al Harris may be the top corner on the Packers but he is not a top corner in the league. To put him in a category with the Champ Bailey's and the Patrick Surtain's just isn't correct. I'm glad to have him as a Packer...but lets not go crazy. |

I'll put Al Harris up against Champ Bailey and Patrick Surtain any day and twice on Sundays.
I get quite a kick outta some of you people who crown big-name corners king without ever really dissecting their play, or how much other defensive talent they had around them, enabling them to elevate their play.
I mean c'mon, the guy's the only defensive player to single-handedly win an NFL playoff game. What more evidence do you need?
Al is THE MAN!!! |

| as we seen last year, it doesn't matter if your Al Harris or Mike Mckenzie or Champ Bailey there are no shut down corners in this league, not with the new rules. Even with the big money being thrown around to CB's that isn't going to stop Randy, T.O. or the best receivers. If Jim Bates believes that Al Harris is the perfect fit for his style of defense I am inclined to believe, he of all people should know, again Jim Bates said he is a top corner not us posters |

i love what al's done in green bay but he's not that good of a corner, he's a nickleback on a good defence and a dimeback on a great one. he's a good player with a good attitude, but he gets double moved all the time and he doesnt have the speed to keep up witht he speedier guys. _________________

Al Harris is die hard no quit CB, but he has a ways to go to be compared to Kevin Smith or Deion Sanders or Surtain....those are all shut down corners.
As witnessed last season, Harris gave up some big plays.
But he's young, and he will continue to get better and may one day be comparable, just not yet. |
