Penalty served, Thurman awaits word from NFL
Quote: | Middle linebacker Odell Thurman has served his time, and now he hopes to hear soon if it is time to resume serving the Cincinnati Bengals again as a big-time defender, rather than just putting in time as a reluctant spectator. Wednesday marks the one-year anniversary of Thurman's banishment from the league by then-commissioner Paul Tagliabue for repeat violations of the NFL substance abuse policy. Having officially applied for reinstatement, he now awaits a determination on his future. |

Hopefully he's reinstated before training camp. The Bengals could use every linebacker they can get.
If he's reinstated (which i have no doubt he will be), i just hope he can keep clean and turn into a good citizen. _________________ If you're not in over your head, how do you know how tall you are?

theJ, aren't you a bit worried about Thurman being really out of shape? _________________

I'm not all that worried about it. Certainly it's one of the things that could hold him back, but it's not like he's had a problem with that in the past. If he was a guy who had previously shown up to camp overweight and out of shape, then yes i would definetly be worried about it.
I guess if he does show up out of shape, we'll just cut him and it won't be any different than last year. Remember Ahmad Brooks looks to have the middle under control, so Odell would probably be looking at playing WLB anyhow.

Yes, most likely the WLB spot that Brian Simmons vacated. Don't look for him to start though. I'm gonna say our starters will be:
WLB: Landon Johnson
MLB: Ahmad Brooks
SLB: Rashad Jeanty _________________ If you're not in over your head, how do you know how tall you are?

I would of thought with Ahmad Brook's athletic ability he would be better suited at an OLB spot. _________________

If anything i'd say Odell is more athletic. Both are considered 1st-2nd round talents though, so it's almost a moot point. And to me, Odell is more of a coverage linebacker. His strength lies in dropping back in coverage and distrupting the passing lanes, not clogging the running lanes.
I'd say the reasoning is this: If Odell is in the middle, but doesn't pan out, we don't have a true MLB to back him up. If Odell is on the outside and doesn't pan out, then we can put Landon there. _________________ If you're not in over your head, how do you know how tall you are?
