There's been lots of discussion about what the team should do. I think he won't be back but others feel he may be franchised. Anybody think we can put the transitional tag (not sure exactly how tit works) and get some trade value for him since there's serious interst but the franchise tag scares suitors off and breeds discontent within the player -- remember how Takeo Spikes left Cincy under good terms and they still got some value from Buffalo.
By the way I'm heard CIncy's interested- think they would part with their 2005 and 2006 2nds? |

im pretty sure transitional tags let the player talk with other teams, rather than if they were franchised they cant talk to anyone. and also if the team interested in the transitional tagged player makes an offer, the current team the player plays for has a week to match the offer. althought im not really 100% on that.
people were probably questioning Simons worth at the start of the season but he has really come on lately, it wont suprise me if he is back for the eagles though next year, unless we get a great trade offer for him. _________________ FLY EAGLES FLY! |

I also agree that Corey will be back with the eagles next season. If you look at all the other FA DT's and DT's in the draft none are worthy of replacing Simon. The Eagles being a smart organization will resign him or franchise and keep him for atleast a year. _________________

ok, there are three ways that a team can restrict an unrestricted free agent, transition tag, exclusive franchise, and unexclusive franchise.
A transition tag means that the player has a salary of the avg of the top 10 players at their position from last season. The player can negotiate with any team, and if they sign an offer sheet, the new team owes no compensation. You could in theory try to blackmail a team into giveing you a pick if they think you might match the offer, but if they call your bluff you are in trouble.
An unexclusive franchise means that the player has a salary of the avg of the top 5 players at their position from last season. The player can negotiate with any team, and if they sign an offer sheet that is not matched the new team owes 2 #1 picks. The teams usually negotiate a lesser compensation instead of using an offer sheet.
An exclusive franchise means that the player has a salary of the avg of the top 5 players for this season. The player cannot negotite with any other teams. Interested teams have to reach trade compensation talks with the original clubs, before they can talk to the player about salary.
As far as Corey Simon is concerned, I don't think that we would use a transition tag because there won't be a threat of matching the salary if someon offers him something obcene. I also don't think we will use an excluse franchise tag, because of Shaun Rogers' new contract, which will take the franchise number from ~$5 mill to well over $6 mill. (The official numbers for 2005 have not been anounced yet.) I don't know if we will try to use the unexclusive franchise, Simon is already posturing about it so I think we would only use it if we decided that we wanted to move him for whatever we can get. |

I think Corey Simon is overrated. Watching him play, I wonder why he can't be like a Kevin William of the Vikes or Jenkins of the Panthers. His run-stopping ability really isn't that great and he does not have great pass rushing abilities. His last 10+ sack was a couple of years ago. I'm glad he picked up a few sacks toward the end of the season and it was the only thing that prevented his season from being a complete bust. Darwin Walker's production also declined as well unfortunetly |

| sure their numbers declined but thats because they got javon kearse and simon was hurt for a couple of games if i was the eagles i would franchise him and see how he does in the 05 season then talk about a big and lenthy contract and knowin the eagles they would probally do that |

whereischico,
Yeah I'm sure you know the eagles so I guess they probably will franchise him and then give him a big contract extension when he's 29 years old at DT to a guy who has a history of being overweight esp since we have all these extra picks and still need to sign young guys like Mike Lewis and Brian Westbrook.
Personally, I think you are very out of touch with what the Eagles think. Why would they do that? Why would they give a 29 year old DT a big contract extension after 2005 esp when he didn't come to camp? The M.O. for this type of behavior is a one way ticket out of town.
Whereischico... Who do you know with the Eagles that is telling you this information? You know someone right? You must b/c I don't know anyone with the Eagles so they must be planning to give Simon all the money they have... Not! _________________ [http://www.brown24.com/default.asp] |

yes i agree, when he didnt come to camp i think he booked his flight out of here, look what happened with staley and taylor last year, and yes they are currently not with the eagles and will most likely be the same for corey.
even though i want to resign corey because i think he can play good when he is pushed but hes abit lazy and cant stop the run all that well.
so i see him being traded after he is franchised and i see alot of those trades happening this offseason, atleast 3 which is very unusual but it seems to be the case this year. _________________ FLY EAGLES FLY! |
