1/24/06 -- Broncos Update: Compensatory Pick, Off-Season Priorities, TO, Heimerdinger.
Mike Shanahan has called Ron Dayne, Gerard Warren high priorities for the 2006 NFL Season, looks like Denver is interested in keeping the so-called "scrubs" afterall.
Coach Teflon also chimed in saying he'd love for Lepsis and Nalen to remain on the squad. He believes the team will stay intact. However, Shanahan says this about every year and what does that mean? Likely somebody will go.
The AP reports that in order for Pryce to remain on our squad, he'll have to restructure his contract.
Shanahan also stated this in regards to Owens, "Whoever that guy might be ... there's always a possibility if somebody handles himself the right way, they could come into this organization. But they're going to have to live by the standards we practice."
Current Jets OC Mike Heimerdinger is desparately trying to get out of his contract and has hinted at interest in the vacancy at OC here due to the Texans hiring Gary Kubiak.
According to the Denver Post, there was an excerpt at the end of an article in which the Denver Broncos will (expect to) get a third rounder for compensation due to the performance of Kennoy Kennedy and Reggie Hayward this year.
Mark another one on the draft charts folks, Denver now has two first-rounders, two third-rounders and two-fourth rounders. Seven picks within the first four rounds, not too shabby.

1/23/06 -- Broncos Update: Nalen to Houston? TO to Denver?
Contrary to NFLPA.org's salary database, Tom Nalen is indeed a free agent this season with the Broncos and is unsure whether or not Denver will re-sign him. However, he does want to play for the Broncos and retire one. Nalen also "jokingly" said if Lepsis left, he may leave with him, Don't take this as a joke, because these two could very well be on their way to Houston to follow OC Gary Kubiak.
Nalen also stated most of the guys, especially him would not mind having Owens on our team. He believes the guys in the locker room, especially Rod Smith would be very "good" for Owens.

1/12/06 -- Broncos Update: Kubiak to Houston Could Have Implications on Draft
It has been reported at numerous sources that when the Broncos get eliminated from the playoffs, or win the Super Bowl, the Houston Texans will definitely name Denver OC Gary Kubiak as their head coach.
It will be interesting to see if Kubiak being the future HC in Houston will have any implications on Denver's draft strategy this year. Could they be trading partners? It'll be something to look forward to.

1/09/06 -- Broncos Update: Plummer to Hawaii, Kubiak and the Patriots
Due to the injuries sustained by Drew Brees and Carson Palmer, Denver Quarterback Jake Plummer is now the #3 quarterback for the AFC, which will increase the Bronco presence at the Pro Bowl to five players.
It seems like OC Gary Kubiak has the inside track to the head coaching vacancy in Houston. Expect an announcment by the end of the week.
The Patriots seem to have huge respect for the Broncos and are admitting it will be the toughest game of the season for them.

1/05/06 -- Broncos Update: Injuries and the NFL Draft
Al Wilson and Darrent Williams returned to the practice field for the Broncos this week and are expect to play in Denver's Divisional Round Playoff game next weekend. However, Al Wilson may still be impaired, as he is wearing a cast that imobilizes his thumb. Although he admits it'll be hard to adjust, hopefully he'll be able to make a smooth adjustment and play up to his pro-bowl caliber next weekend.
Look for the Broncos to draft a wide receiver in the first round of this year's NFL Draft. Topping the list are juniors Santonio Holmes and Chad Jackson, along with senior wide out Derek Hagan. With Rod Smith's age, average depth, and Lelie's inconsistency to show that he can be a #1 in the NFL -- it seems like the leaders down in Dove Valley are quite serious about drafting a young receiver early. Also, don't be surprised to see David Givens in a Broncos uniform come next season.
Also in regards to the NFL Draft, don't be surprised if Mark Setterstrom or Greg Eslinger are sporting orange and blue next season either.
I've been hearing miscellaneous reports from various sources that all indicate the Broncos are very interested in upgrade the offensive and defensive lines early in the NFL Draft as well.

Update on our First Rounders: Picking Late...
Denver will pick 30th even if we lose our first playoff game.
Because of our 13-3 record and strength of schedule of .500, even if we lose our first playoff game we will be the last to pick of the non-superbowl competitors. The round of the playoffs that you get to is meaningless; the only thing that is taken into account to determine the order is final record and strength of schedule. Even if Seattle, who has the same 13-3 record as us, loses early, they would still pick before us because they have a weaker strength of schedule at .430.
However, this basically locks in the Washington pick at 22 for the same reasons...unless of course they make it to the superbowl, where the pick would jump to the 31st or 32nd spot depending if they win or lose.
But just how big was that fumble return by Sean Taylor last night that ended a potential game-winning drive by the Eagles and sealed the game for Washington? Well, it bumped us from the 19th pick to the 22nd....and we would have been picking just ahead of San Diego and Kansas City at 20 and 21...
Just some food for thought for you guys. Accurate, since Scott Wright has us picking there as well. If we get to the Super Bowl, 31 and if we win, 32 obviously.

2 bits of good news. i hope heimerdinger finds his way to denver. and i was expecting at least a third rounder, wouldn't be surprised if we got another 4th as well.
and in other news, wesley duke is going to NFL Europe. here's a list of the other players we're sending and some guys that we signed to future contracts.
