definitely agree with you there, the part where he electrocuted the guy was good, but a lot of it was his just knocking guys out, it was kind of like watching Austin Powers on steroids, "judo chop, judo chop!" _________________

Love reading these reviews. I find myself agreeing with what you say and your gradings for the movies. I have only seen 3 movies in your top 10 percentages that you have posted though, and they are 3 of my favorite movies (The Departed, Full Metal Jacket, The Dark Knight).
Also, I love the picture you put for The Departed, it's one of my favorite parts in the movie. What is it cha period? _________________

I'm pumping myself up for it. I'll be watching this gem for the first time shortly. |
are we talking about the Wicker Man from 2006 here? The same one that has a 15% on RT with a 3.5/10 rating and a 36/100 on Metacritic? a gem?
or the '73 version? |
Yeah...it's supposed to be THAT bad...that's why I'm excited. All of the Nicholas Cage jokes exchanged by keyser and Thrill have gone way over my head. Time for me to get caught up. _________________ Top 50 Franchise Cornerstones (2012) - COMPLETED! |

It truly is an amazing film... I don't think I've laughed that hard at a film since... well... ever. _________________

Fanboys [2009, Kyle Newman]
I realize that the movie isn't good, but i laughed the entire time, at the Star Wars references, the raunchy humor, and the plethora of celebrity cameos. The film is about a group of guys that can't wait to see the new Star Wars movie, so hey plan a cross country road trip to the Lucas ranch to try and steal the film reel. The film does actually add a bit of romance to the story (two of the characters love eachother but don't realize it...its a happy ending - cheesy). The film went through several delays (was originally scheduled for a 2007 release i do believe) and despite these numerous delays the films is still under developed and isn't a cohesive story. Most won't enjoy it nearly as much as I did, however, it is still good for a handful of laughs no matter who you are.
The Verdict: D - 58%

Race To Witch Mountain [2009, Andy Fickman]
This remake is a trite exercise, not nearly as good as the original and is directed strictly towards pre-teens. My 16-year-old brother was eager to see it, i was disappointed in him, however, i don't turn down free trips to the movies no matter who much i know i will dislike the film. I knew going in i would dislike it and had very low expectations and was slightly surprised, but not nearly enough to warrant a good grade for the film. The story of a cab driver who picks up two kids who turn out to be aliens, the ensuing adventure includes running away from other aliens to try and save the kid-looking aliens home planet.
The Verdict: D- - 54% _________________

I've added Next and Bangkok Dangerous to my Netflix queue in hopes of rediscovering the magic, but I can't be too certain. Knowing had some good parts though.
I think I'll give Fanboys a go. Would I like it if I don't know jack about Star Wars? _________________

depends on the type of humor you enjoy. But not knowing details about Star Wars won't affect whether you enjoy the film or not, it doesn't get all that detailed.
Two of my friends and I went to see it a few months back, we were the only three in the theater...it was a blast, we laughed nonstop. _________________

If you have a rudimentary knowledge over the fandom of Star Wars and their respective "followers", you'll be more than fine. The references are quite broad with maybe a handful of really obscure, hardcore dimensions. But even then, most are explained by the actors in the film, which made for some out of place and out of character dialogue. _________________

Also add The Rock to the list if you are looking for bad. I got some good laughs out of him with that movie. _________________

Not that the film was horrendous or anything (i felt that it was still pretty bad though)...every time he opens his yap in this flick it cracks me up, that dialect kills me, they hair is an added bonus. _________________

I'm not sure there'll be anything that is able to recapture what he was able to do in The Wicker Man... though I may have to check those out anyway- especially the Bangkok one. _________________

Drag Me To Hell [2009, Sam Raimi]
The story of a loan officer who denies a loan extension to the wrong gypsy (in an effort to impress her boss and gain the upper hand on a promotion she wants) and is subsequently cursed by this gypsy (kicked out of her house) and now will be tormented for three days by an evil spirit and after the third day...well i bet you can guess what is supposed to happen. Can Lohman rid herself of this curse in time to save her skin? A return to b-movie horror glory for Sam Raimi, although not quite as good as the first two Evil Dead films, Drag me To hell was still a more than solid effort by Raimi and used black humor and nice special effects to captivate the audience, but the true hero of this film is Alison Lohman, her performance was phenomenal. The ending is phenomenal and very satisfying as well, a must see for Raimi and B-movie fans alike.
The Verdict: B+ - 87%
2009 Films Thus Far
I've seen 10 2009 films so far...here is how the grading scale ranks them:
1.) Star Trek - 90%
2.) Drag Me To Hell - 87%
3.) I Love You, Man - 83%
4.) The Hangover - 82%
5.) Taken - 77%
6.) The Last House on The left - 68%
7.) Terminator Salvation - 64%
8.) Fanboys - 58%
9.) Knowing - 57%
10.) Race To Witch Mountain - 54%
now on to ranking them as my personal favorites:
1.) Star Trek
2.) I Love You, Man
3.) Drag Me To Hell
4.) The Hangover
5.) Fanboys
6.) Taken
7.) The Last House on The Left
8.) Terminator Salvation
9.) Knowing
10.) Race To Witch Mountain
...the lists are pretty similar with a few differences. _________________

Batman Begins [2005, Christopher Nolan]
Not just another mindless comic book flick, anything but as a matter of fact, if anything Batman Begins is lacking on the action front, however, its the first dark and chilling film like this we've seen in some time and the film has the most extensive character development a comic book film had seen prior to its release. The story of Bruce Wayne's rise to power as the Batman, from childhood where he witnessed the murder of his parents to the birth of a hero. My favorite player in this film is Cillian Murphy as Dr. Crane/Scarecrow, his menacing character really steals the show. Up until its sequel hit the big screen last year, Batman Begins was considered one of the best "comic book" film ever, but TDK and Iron Man have since leapfrogged it, currently making it the 5th best comic book adaptation in my book (Spiderman 1 & 2).
The Verdict: B+ - 85% _________________
