Hot Fuzz [2007, Edgar Wright]

From the makers of Shaun of the Dead comes the buddy cop film Hot Fuzz about a big city officer who is transferred to a small town to be sergeant. He discovers that the Neighborhood Watch Alliance (Laughing) is what keeps the village's crime rate low, by killing off anyone who threatens to break the town's perfect atmosphere, these deaths are played off as "accidents". This film is brilliantly satirical and utilizes many of the cliched crime movie moments to create a very fun and funny ride. Simon Pegg is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors, his performances in these two Edgar Wright films and his performance in Star Trek have all been great, and Nick Frost is hilarious again.

The Verdict: A- - 88%

I have tried to watch Simon Pegg's movies, and I just can't get into any of them. I feel like most of his jokes are a hit and miss, and he doesn't really have a great sense of humor. I guess you could say he's just not my style. Or maybe after watching Run, Fatboy, Run, I vowed to never watch a Pegg movie again because that was a disastrous movie.

I agree with your assessment of Hot Fuzz, I thought it was great too. I still need to check out Shaun of the Dead.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. I wouldn't go that far! I'm not a big fan of Shaun of the Dead, but Hot Fuzz is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Very Happy

explain to me why you didn't like Shaun of the Dead. I don't see as how you could like one without liking the other.

Key Fact #1 - and probably the only reason.

I hate zombies and zombie-related things.

i was assuming it would be something along this line, to each his own on the genre, but zombies/post-apocalyptic films is one of my favorite genre of film, so i found it enjoyable, i guess if you don't like zombies you won't enjoy it, Buckrock.

Agreed. Two great movies I'm excited for another to come out. Anyone know if/when this will happen?

Zombieland is going to be sweet.

There are some great parts in Hot Fuzz. The line he throws to Frost ("did you tell him to cool off?"), the Point Break emulation, the wonderful image of Pegg riding back into town on a horse after a hiatus with a toothpick and two guns on his back.

i'm with you on that sentiment, but I thoroughly enjoyed shaun of the dead, only zombie movie i've ever liked.

If you liked Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, check out the british comedy show Spaced, simon pegg created and starred in it. its pretty humorous.

I heard about it but could never find an outlet for watching it, not that i looked overly hard anyway though.
