As we get closer to next Sunday I'll try to add to this OP, but for now, I just wanted to get up because this game could not be HUGER for us right now.
You end up saying this about almost every game of the season, but right now it's hard not to say this isn't the biggest game of our season thus far [though that is in part because of what we were able to do this past week against Denver].
The Bengals already came into our house and beat us. Embarrassed us, is more like it. And the Ravens will remember it.
If the Ravens lose at Cincinnati, then they sit at 4-4 at midseason having been swept by a division rival. Consider the AFC North race a two-team race between the Steelers and Bengals if we lose this, with a probable down-to-the-wire wild card race with the Texans to commence.
But if the Ravens display the same sort of defensive swagger they showed against the Broncos, then they can jump right back into the division series and earn a split with the Bengals.
Huge, huge game. I hope Mattison keeps giving Ellerbe snaps because his aggressiveness is what we will need against Benson. Overall, to stop Palmer and that pass attack, the Ravens will need to play with the same sort of attitude and confidence they played with against Denver. They were hitting everything in sight. That's what we need. Mattison mixed up the blitzes and as a result Orton never had any time to throw. Maybe what we saw against Denver was a defensive coordinator finding his balance. If that's what happened, then hopefully we'll see a repeat against Cincinnati.
On offense, there's no question the guy who has to show up big time is Joe Flacco. In the first Bengals game, he did nothing but check down and as a result the only offensive spark we had was Ray Rice making something out of nothing. Gaither will play in this game unlike the first matchup, and Antwan Odom won't be out there, which should help Flacco find more time to throw and hopefully take some accurate shots downfield.
I already can't wait for next week.

If we can beat the Bengals on Sunday and the Broncos defeat the Steelers on Monday night, the lead in the AFC North becomes a three way tie. Like you said, for us, this game is HUGE! _________________

Realistically, I don't see it happening either, but we can hope. _________________

Biggest game of the season BY Far.
They need to stop Benson - i.e. actually tackle him instead of making him look like a human bouncy castle. _________________

This is a guaranteed win based solely on the triumphant return of the BTerp GDT.
Seriously though, like everyone has been saying, huge game and a must-win this week. Really every week from here on out is basically a must win because accounting for losses to Indy and Pittsburgh at home we don't have much room left for error.
If our defense comes out playing with the urgency they did yesterday, no way this game is even close. _________________

I'm not sold on losing to Indy honestly.
The argument has been "Peyton picks us apart", but that's only half of the story. Forget about the Indy game from 2007, that came after the MNF loss to the Patriots which was, aside from any playoff losses, the most devastating loss in the history of our franchise to me.
We all watched the game last year, and I think the primary reason Peyton picked us apart was the fact that the Colts were more physical in every facet of the game. On offense, we had no answer to their swarming defense, we could barely manage a first down. On defense, it wasn't just the passing, our guys tackled poorly, and lost the battle in the trenches badly.
So I know Peyton is great, no denying that, but "IF" and that's a really big if, we can out physical the Colts defense, we have a good chance to really put up some points against them.
I will agree that I think we'll probably split with Pittsburgh as I think the teams seem so even this year, what Pittsburgh is lacking on offense they make up for on defense and the opposite for the Ravens. _________________

And to add on, the no huddle offense won't be as damaging as in the past. Still, with all these potential improvements the Ravens still are heavy underdogs...like Rosey O'donald heavy. _________________

im really excited for this game guys. If Cincinnati wins this game I think it solidifies that the Bengals are for real. I think both teams come out firing on all cylinders. Its going to be a really physical game, but the Bengals have kind of struggled at home this year for some reason. We will see what happens but as of now I have to give my prediction, and I'm gonna have to side on my team for this game.
Cincinnati: 24
Baltimore: 20 _________________

The difference this year as well, as compard to years past, is that if it comes down to playing in a shootout, we have the fire power to potentially win. In the past, we had to try and shut Peyton down and keep it low scoring. Now, all our defense has to do is keep him in check, and our offense is now capable of putting up 30+ as opposed to about 17 and making our D hold them off. _________________

C'mon son. The Bengals really need a split in these next two games to have a great shot at the division. ESPN said an intresting thing today, they said which ever team can tackle the RB better will win and quite frankly I agree. _________________ Bengals Pro Bowl Watch

I know the Ravens D should be playing rallied after what happened in the previous game, if they play like they did last week I like our chances. But this season I've learned now to underestimate the Bengals. _________________

Excuse me, but a poster suggested that the Steelers lack something on offense.
Please, explain, in opinion, what that is?!????! |

This game scares me. The Bengals coming off of a bye in their stadium. Us coming off a huge win and being favored by 3. _________________
