I posted my idea for a reshuffling of the FBS college football conferences a while back to mixed reviews. One of my major problems initially was that I tried to include all 120 FBS division 1 schools. That is just far too many. I have narrowed the list down to 80, divided up geographically into 10 different divisions.

In my ideal world College football would crown a national champion after a legitimate 16 team playoff every season. My proposed idea with these re-aligned college football divisions is that every division would have a champion at the end of the regular season, which would guarantee that team a slot in the playoff brackets. The other 6 teams would be determined either by a computer ranking system or an AP poll or whatever - but the next 6 highest rated schools would be invited to the playoff as well. That way if the Southeast Division or the Pacific Division really was extraordinarily dominant in one season none of their teams would be overlooked, or if another FBS team not included in the divisions - Bowling Green for example - had an exceptionally strong year they could make the playoffs.

I would like the divisions to be fluid and changeable as well. So, if a team like Stanford started to play really poorly for multiple years in a row they could be displaced by an up and coming Hawaii or San Diego State for example.

You can't just eliminate 40 teams, nobody in their right minds would agree to that. Do you honestly think that this is a legitimate solution?

How do you decide the rankings for the playoffs.

Non Division team goes 11-1, Conference Champion goes 8-4...Who is ranked higher the Champion or the At-Large?

Where are the rivals? CFB is made on tradition.

Midwest would get dominated by Nebraska with Iowa or Wisconsin on occasion

BE by VTech maybe WVU

Penn St. on east. Maybe Cuse rises back to power.

You're plopping Penn Stat into a conference where we won't ever face Michigan, Ohio State or Michigan State....what the hell?

But I like the effort.

for the most part I feel like I have kept most of the major college football rivalries together, grouped into the same divisions. Some exceptions do exist though. Penn State and Tennessee for example would have to create some new rivalries, but don't forget that those teams could meet up with their old rivals in the playoffs every year if they were good enough.

What Rivalry is in the Midwest confrence?

FYI Nebraska doesn't really consider Mizzou a top rival considering they just became relevant about ten years ago.

They didn't make it, which is the biggest problem with this list. The 40 teams that didn't make the cut just wouldn't accept it. Not to mention that there doesn't seem to be much reasoning over who gets in and who gets left out. I mean, Toledo is in the Great Lakes, but Central Michigan, who has dominated the MAC for four years now, gets left out. Why?

Iowa vs Iowa State; Mizzou v Kansas; Iowa v Minn; Minn v Wisc...... But its a sad sad conference; Iowa, Nebraska or Wisconsin would win almost every year. I guess Kansas or Mizzou might win on occasion. Mizzou has had a lot of bad season and only 2 10 win seasons (1 in 1960). 8 out of the last 10 coaches at Kansas have had losing records.

That's my point. Nearly every year those three teams would dominate.

I dont see how thats any worse than the Big 12 is right now. Its Texas and OU and a bunch of irrelevants at the moment. That setup at least gives your Huskers a fightin chance lol
