i think they want cowart to mentor ej, and if ej can't pick it up, then he's gone.
mlb is too important to be soft on. |

yeah, that's a good observation. i can feel it, these guys are hungry. i think players know now their shelf life is much shorter than it used to be as the owners move them on sooner if they don't produce. and we're attracting the guys who want to win now.

Well to steal a line from all the TV sports analysts... sports, including football are a "what have you done for me lately?" business.. and the fact is, EJ had a chance to start last year, Thomas did end up getting a bit of playing time too... the LB was the WORST part of the vikings defense last year, and when you can go and get guys that will automatically improve your defense you do it, even if it means making some "potentially good" players sit the bench for a while.
People forget these are veteran players... the youngest guy they brought in was Fred Smoot. Now, from what Fred Smoot stated in his press confrence when he told him what Tice wanted him to "sit on an island" I think that says what the Vikings really plan to let him do, and as far as Smoot goes THAT is what the guy usually does anyway, he's a good young gifted corner who will be just fine.
also it'll finally be a lot of players second year in Cotrells scheme, so expect some players to improve by having more time with the same system (dont forget the Vikings have been changing D coordinators almost every year)
As for the whole Cowart starting bit... the guy is a good solid veteran MLB, who supposedly has good leadership qualities, something the Vikings NEED on defense, and he's already better than EJ, despite all the crap you wanna spout about his injuries the guy has had some great years and his time in New York was actually not his best because he was an OLB/MLB there, and he's much better at MLB, so you'll see him making a difference when it comes to the LB corps this year (they'll finally be in the right place more often)
The team is in a HUGE transition from being a point scoring machine, to now trying to be a stingy tough defense, and they're making sure they get the players to make it work NOW, and make it work for the next 4-6 years. _________________

A very good question...
Thomas:6'2, 241
Cowart: 6'2, 245
Henderson:6'1, 245
Harris:6'2, 255
Probly Harris, if they had no martial art training or anything. _________________
