I miss the days where we had a couple of these threads active. I think we all realized how much work they are to maintain. Sadly, I haven't been able to watch movies at even half the pace I used to...probably not even 1/4. |
I've watched a ton of movies, but I don't feel like writing up reviews, because I'm doing comprehensive episode capsules for Batman: The Animated Series on my personal blog. Makes me not want to write up movie reviews!
I will go put my rankings so far in my review thread, I suppose... _________________

In Bruges [2008, Martin McDonagh]
In Bruges is the story of two assassins who are sent to the small quiet village of Bruges in Belgium to lay low after they had completed a mission. While one of the assassins struggles with his sanity in this small town, especially after accidentally killing a young boy, the other (and older) assassin is quite calm in Bruges, until he is ordered to eliminate his partner for being a loose-cannon. In Bruges is a great debut by rookie director Martin McDonagh and combines dark, raunchy, politically incorrect humor with thrilling crime sequences and a bit of the buddy cop genre thrown in for kicks. Colin Farrell plays a great foul-mouthed killer and Ralph Fiennes nails yet another villainous role. Although it was a flop at the box office, In Bruges is a very good film and one of the more underrated of 2008.
The Verdict: 84% - B+ _________________

In Bruges is one of, if not my favorite from 2008. I'd say it's Farrells best work, Gleeson and Fiennes are terrific, and the midget is hilareous. _________________

It's a dark dark comedy, so be prepared for that. Good dramatic points too though. _________________

| 1. You have several of the best films rated well, A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and No Country For Old Men, 2. Your rating for The Hangover was better than most, 3. Good recognition for Night Of The Living Dead as important. |

| 1. Reservoir Dogs is easily the best film you have rated, 2. Your rating is much too great with Fight Club, 3. Films made before the seventies could get ratings in this particular thread. |

One of the reasons In Bruges only got a B+ was that it is very self-indulgent, it runs the risk of pleasing its self more than its viewers with the high amounts of political incorrectness. _________________
