Steelers sign LaMarr Woodley
| Quote: | | The Pittsburgh Steelers, who have the earliest report date in the league, took a major step on Wednesday evening toward having all of their draft picks in training camp on time, reaching a contract agreement with second-round linebacker LaMarr Woodley. A former University of Michigan star, and the 46th player taken overall, Woodley will sign a four-year contract, the financial details of which were not immediately available. The accord with Woodley is key because, like first-round linebacker Lawrence Timmons, he is expected to garner significant playing time as a rookie. The Steelers released former Pro Bowl linebacker Joey Porter this spring and, for the first time in franchise history, used their first two draft choices on linebackers. Porter subsequently signed with the Miami Dolphins. |

If Timmons and Woodley develop, they will have a new era of great OLBs in PIttsburgh _________________

Great pick/signing. Steeler fans are going to love this guy. He was very underappreciated, and fell because his whole team fell off the map after losing to OSU. _________________

| This is just a theory i have on the steelers couldnt they run a hybrid d next year. Blending 4-3 and 3-4 schemes into one mixed scheme? Cause they drafted the players they need 4 it in Woodley and Timmons cause Woodley would b able 2 play DE right? |

Woodley is an undersized DE...he can play both DE and OLB. Probably a better fit at OLB because of edge rushing skills and he is smaller. _________________

I'm really looking forward to seeing how Woodley fares in the NFL. He was so awesome at Michigan . . . _________________

Good siging for the steelers, I wish the Eagles would start signing there 2nd and 3rd round picks, so they can be in camp on time. _________________

a quote from Steelers LB's coach Keith Butler formerly of the Seattle Seahawks on Lamar Woodley:
| Quote: | At least Woodley is healthy and able to practice, and he has made the kind of progress rarely seen by a college defensive end converting to outside linebacker in the 3-4 defense. The Steelers have him on the left side, where Clark Haggans starts, and he was dropping into pass coverage in the zone defense yesterday.
"Compared to the other guys we've had here and trying to make the transition with them, he's further along than anybody we've had," Butler said. |
I really have high hopes for him. He has the size/speed ratio to play the position and be effective.
Here's to hoping. _________________
