Chicago signed Nathan Vasher to a similar extension last month, so the Bears have one of the best young cornerback tandems locked up for six seasons. Tillman got $2.9 million more guaranteed, although the deal is probably backloaded. Tillman has been inconsistent as a pro, but was one of the league's best in 2006. |
Looks like the Bears will not be sending any money towards Briggs way and I bet he is not too happy with everyone else getting paid and not him. _________________

That is alot of money.... to somebody not name Lance Briggs.
The Bears now locked up both of ther young CB to long term deals. _________________

I think Briggs would be very upset that they gave all that money too Tillman and have not come up with along term deal for him yet, but then again he plays LB and Tillman is CB so there is different money there.
Still...doesn't look good for Briggs to get any type of long term deal done with the Bears. _________________

Its strange how the Bears dont seem to want to give Briggs a new deal. Hes as good in coverage as any LB in the league and a prolific tackler. _________________

I always thought that Tampa 2 teams valued CBs far less than front 7 players, particularly DL. I know that is Indy's philosphy. I'm surprised to see them dumping over $30 mil guaranteed into CB without taking care of Lance Briggs.
That's taking nothing away from Nathan Vasher and Charles Tillman. I think they're great players but a stud WLB is vital in the Tampa 2 and no one plays it better than Briggs.
Briggs' contract should have been addressed before either Vasher or Tillman who were both still under contract. _________________

| hey lets take it easy the Bears tried to lock up Briggs last year for similar money but Briggs turned it down and Chicago told him then that that was his only chance at a deal and there was a good chance they would franchise him so he dug him own hole here. |

Chicago did offer Briggs a large contract, but he turned it down.
Anyway, it's good that they locked up their corners. Both are young and above-average to good. _________________

Doesnt Brigg want out of Chicago? Doesnt he want to be "The man" on a defense and not be overshadowed? Yet people are blaming Chicago for this...They will go after a OLB on day 1 next year I bet...unless they have a player waiting in the wings that Im not aware of. _________________

Between Michael Okwo (3rd round choice 2007 NFL Draft) and Jamar Williams (4th round choice 2006 NFL Draft) the Bears are pretty confident that we will have someone who can take Briggs' position either this year if he doesn't play or for the the future. Sure, if either of these guys is forced to start Week 1 this year, it'll be at least a slight loss (seeing as Briggs has a good amount of experience now and these two are green) but you have to remember that Briggs himself was a 3rd round choice and that playing next to Urlacher tends to make guys look somewhat better than they are. Urlacher can pick up the slack if someone misses their assignment and he allows the WLB to be more aggressive once the ball is handed off because if they miss the tackle, Brian is usually there to finish up. |
