The Associated Press reports an attorney that represents New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson told a newspaper Benson is interested in moving the football team out of Louisiana and possibly to San Antonio, Albuquerque, or Los Angeles. Benson has been threatening to move the team while discussing negotiations with the State of Louisiana over the Saints' Louisiana Superdome lease. On Wednesday, May 11 the San Antonio Express-News quoted Benson attorney and friend Stanley Rosenberg as saying that Benson has a strong interest in moving the Saints out of New Orleans. Rosenberg also said he's received interest from outside parties to either buy the team or to persuade Benson to move the team. One offer exceeded $1 billion, Rosenberg said. |
There is also talk of Anaheim wanting a football team. You guys better hope that Louisiana will come through on the stadium deal. _________________ FF Member #1000

I'm sorry to hear it's more of a realistic option, now. Quite frankly, you might can't blame him. This is a business and like any other business, profit is necessary for its survival. Purportedly, the team has been losing money. I'm not sole on it being the Super Dome's fault nor the current owner's in whole, but maybe his precessor(s). Sure the state's present economy doesn't help but all team's cities suffer that fate at sometime or another. And, by no stretch do I advocate the state allocating tax dollars, whether future or present, to support a sports team rather than its ppl. How much does the team contribute to the state? Why does its current stadium not support them? Or, the real question: did the earlier administration do enough to create a lasting buzz?
No matter the answer, the truth will probably remained stored away from the ppl whom are affected the most: the fan. Instead, we'll be sold some pollitical mumbo-jumbo and asked to understand sympathetically while still supporting the team we love. In short, I hope they stay but in the event they leave, maybe they'll reward us by remaining in the region. I am a SFFL! |

| He says that she says that Benson told his nephew that when he was at a cousins birthday party mentioned that he really likes the town of San Antonio. I am so tired of all this off the table negotiation. This is how it stands currently, as I see it. Blanco offered the States "Last offer" to renegotiate a contract that includes Superdome upgrades just a couple of days before draft weekend. Benson turned down that offer, and is sticking with the current contract that is still valid for a couple of years. The last comment was that he would be willing to sit back down at the table at the end of this year. Benson told the State that he wanted to work out a deal well in advance of draft time and even gave them a cut-off date. The State dragged its feet till a week before the cut-off date before even discussing it in the statehouse. They still didn't even have an offer to Benson. The Governor was more worried about an economic trip to CUBA. Last time I checked, Cuba was still under an economic embargo. They blew Benson off during the time he set aside to negotiate with the state. |

| What I heard is that Blanco tried more thn once to meet with benson but was told he was on a vacation and when he came back he wanted to wait till next year to tlk about it. Next year the saint have the right to move the team if they give back the money to the state. What benson is waiting for is for the Saints to have a good season so he would have more to bargin with. My thoughts is if the Saints have a good season benson will be able to keep the deal the way it is if they fail this year the state might get the deal reworked. All Louisiana tax payers should hope the Saint go back back to being the Aints for this year if you want to keep the team and the state. A finshed I-49 would me bring mor money into the state than the Saints do. |
