The Minnesota Vikings have locked up one of the league's most underrated players and prevented him from charging his way out of town.
Vikings Pro Bowl DT Pat Williams told FOXSports.com exclusively that he has agreed to a new three-year extension worth about $22 million that includes $9.5 million in new guarantees.
Williams said the deal won't be signed until Friday as certain formalities still have to be ironed out. However, he's confident it's done and added, "It wasn't so much about the money, I wanted to get a deal done because now I may be able to finish my career playing next to Kevin Williams (another stud Vikings defensive player). That's what was so important for me to get it done."

That's very good news for Vikings fans.
I'm really amazed that they still haven't found an answer at DE, since their DTs have been so great the last couple of years. Generally when you've got guys like Pat and Kevin who can push the middle of the pocket and eat up multiple blockers, the pass rushers are gonna have an easier time getting to their goal. _________________

Ray Edwards and Brian Robison. Those are two names you should remember. _________________

williams is the heart and soul of the defense. the team's mvp. this was needed, regardless of his age. Pat williams is a top 3 DT, and deserves this money no doubt.
the pass rush from the DE should be much better. Erasums James is back, and Ray Edwards and Brian Robison have looked brilliant. The pass rush will be there this season, just watch out for Robison and Edwards. They will be bigger names by seasons end, i gaurantee it. _________________

This has been a weak spot for us, however it hasn't been from a lack of trying. We have invested a couple of first round picks in our defensive ends in recent years, drafting Erasmus James who has missed a lot of time due to injuries, and Kenechi Udeze, who has been good against the run, but lousy at rushing the passer.
Ray Edwards has shown some promise, but has some things to learn before we can expect him to be dominant.
Rookie Brian Robison has proven to be a pleasant surprise this preseason, and we're hoping he will end up being a good situational pass rusher.
IF the team were to fall apart completely this year I sure wouldn't mind getting Calais Campbell in next year's draft. _________________

One correctino, Udeze whohas been good to great against the run, but can't get a sack for his life (he led the Vikings in QB hurries last year). _________________ Gnat's Movie Reviews

Good news for the Vikings Run Defense... I think he only has about 3 years left in him, so he is able to finish his carrier with the Vikings. _________________

He signed a long term extension at the end of last season. He was given a deal 7 years long and worth $50 million. That makes him signed through 2013. _________________

That's great for them! Kevin and Pat are arguably the best DT tandem in the league. _________________

I think personally that Kevin is the best overall DT in the NFL in a totally non-biased way..and Phat Pat ranks up in the top 5-maybe top 3 NT/run stuffers in my opinion.
Well every Viking fan knew it would happen, and im gonna be selfish hear and hope he gets remembered as a Viking, which may be the case considering he teamed with K-Will led the best run defense in the NFL last season.
...Either way, as theGnat and Enrage have said, Udeze couldnt notch one sack but what goes unnoticed is that he was an ace at stopping the run and very good at hurrying the QB...he rightfully deserves to start the season, but if he continues his sack-less streak, he should be demoted to a rotational run specialist with Erasmus James or Brian Robison starting.
And Brian Robison has had a monstrous pre-season with great play and should have an excellent future in the NFL...im glad we traded up for him since he fell, or else he would be a 49er right now!
And Ray Edwards is a very agressive player who loves playing physical...hell, the guy started a fight in a scrimmage against the Chiefs, plus he at one point scrapped with Matt Birk and Steve Hutchinson...the kids got cahone's _________________

Erasmus James is putting up 14 sacks this season. And Brian Robison will be a stud in time.
Great move by the Vikes. _________________

Well maybe we solved our problems at DE.
Robison had 2 sacks, Udeze had one, and we finished with 6 on the day. _________________
