Jason Wilde, of the Wisconsin State Journal, reports Green Bay Packers CB Ahmad Carroll, who is entering his second year, still is not leaving the coaching staff with much confidence.

The team feels he needs to do more and has to pick up his level of play. Defensive coordinator Jim Bates spent more than his fair share of time snapping at Carroll during recent workouts.

Thus far, Carroll has not looked any better than he did a year ago. While he was a starter to finish the season, the team has declared the starting job he held wide open for competition.

Is this where Nicky Collins steps in???

Why put another rookie in there why he might have the same problem this is where you give Joey Thomas a shot. Or we pick up Bobby Taylor.

Well Joey has been pretty strong in Mini camp but from what I seen last year he could not tackle for spit.

Oh it could be worse he could have the same problem as Carroll when Thomas did not hold a WR last year at all. I think Nick is best suited for safety any ways if a rookie starts it would be Micheal Hawkins and he is hurt right now.

Kiwi's praying Collins doesn't start at CB 'cause that would mean he'd be eating a lot of crow, courtesy of yours truly!

I say start whoever can get the job done. I don't care if you were drafted in the 1st or 7th rounds.

In my opinion, CB's generally never really improve much over the years. Either they have the innate ability to cover, or they do not. Apparently Nick Collins has this ability, and if he gives the coaches any reason to start him at CB, he's gonna start. This much I am fairly sure of.

Unless Collins is truly a natural safety, I would hope he gets a shot at starting CB. I believe we have enough bodies at safety. We need to get this other CB thing straightened out.

I don't want him to start at corner because then Carroll was a wasted pick. Carroll has the ability to cover but was put in the situation to start when he should have been learning. That is thanks to MM but Collins has the natural ability to play safety he played two years of safety in college. As a corner he did get six ints but as a senior safety he got the same amount of ints. He shows that he can plant the hit and that will be why he plays safety.

That's all fine and dandy that Collins can "plant the hit". However, we've got serious concerns opposite Al Harris.

Of course Carroll was a wasted pick in the first round. You thougth otherwise? Look, Carroll will be excellent as a nickel or dime back. He just doesn't have it upstairs to start at CB. Like all teams do, you give a player a shot, then move on.

So, as good as Collins is at tackling, he's needed much more badly to supplant Carroll. Al Harris has saavy and Collins has aptitude and ability. We shore up the CB position and we're immediately playoff contenders.

You just don't give Carroll a shot when he should not have played then give up on him. You also don't throw another rookie out there to take his place you give Joey Thomas a shot. Collins is going to be starting at FS and people need to realize this. Carroll will still be starting at corner probably unless we sign Bobby Taylor.
