Joey Thomas Leading ...

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Green Bay Packers CB Joey Thomas is leading CB Ahmad Carroll in their battle for a starting cornerback position. During minicamp, Thomas was consistently better in coverage, made fewer mistakes and he made more big plays than Carroll.

Well, he's taller. That's about all I can say other than he doesn't hold receivers. Not sure if it's an upgrade.

I'm still hoping for Collins to get a shot.

Thomas is good in coverage but he can't tackle I don't know I would still want to see Carroll get another shot at starting.

From what I read prior to the 2004 Draft, Thomas may have been rated a tad higher than Carroll because of size and attitude. If the defensive staff can teach him proper tackling technique, he might beat out Carroll.

Guys,

This position's really got me worried to death because I think if Sherman doesn't play his cards right, it's gonna be a terribly glaring weakness that will cost the team dearly; possibly prevent another playoff appearance for Favre.

I still hold out hope there's a young Mike McKenzie waiting to take the reigns because I am quite confident Carroll and Thomas are not the answers.

Thomas could be. I like to see draft choices that are a bit of a mystery and have some story. Hawkins has one, Collins does, and so does Thomas. Thomas was the best corner in 1-AA football, and Collins was the best safety at that level. Give them a year to ajust to this level, and they could do very well.

Yeah we have the best corner that played in d-2 and the best safety that played in d-2 I hope the can contribute.

Division II...that's an awful lot of fragile eggs in a tiny basket.

I guess Marlin Jackson is tearin' it up for the Colts. He was my defensive choice at the time the Pack selected. I realize there's nothing we can do about it now, but I can't help but imagine the difference if Jackson came in. He'd be the immediate starter opposite Al Harris, instantly strengthening our biggest weakness on defense.

Solid dime package with Harris/Jackson and Carroll/Thomas. Oh, to dream!!!

I know Division II is not the greatest, but it helps to know that you had the absolute best safety and corner in II. If Thomas could tackle, he would be very good.

Thomas wasn't D-2, he played for 1-AA Montana State.

1-a is also known as Division One football

1-aa is also known as Division Two football
