Elizabeth Merrill, of the Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs head coach - Vermeil said the team is not going to panic due to the loss of CB Julian Battle for the season. One free agent the Chiefs took a pass on last spring was CB Ty Law (Patriots). Law is still on the market, but Vermeil said it was unclear whether the Chiefs would do any more defensive shopping. Money or lack of it is the biggest issue for the Chiefs. Both Vermeil and president/general manager Carl Peterson have said that the Chiefs used up most of their cap space on free agents and trades. "We'll look," Vermeil said. "But I don't know what's out there - and then we'll also more deeply evaluate those young people we have. But we have time." |

he hadnt contributed the last 2 years (outside of an occassional special teams tackle) so we are losing nothing. it's possible he was gonna contribute this year but all he had been thus far was a body. the chiefs top 5 (surtain, warfield, mccleon, sapp, and the rookie alphonso hodge) are still in tact. the reports mentioned battle running with the 1st team but that was to get a look at some ohter guys in there with the expectation that warfield will be suspended for 4 games (dui last year) - hopefully he can get healthy for next year and contribute but not a big loss as of yet. outside of the top 5 there we have woods or bartee that could be used in a pinch as coverage guys - they dont excel at it (bartee has finally been moved back to his college position of safety this year) but those are bodies that could help out. or move wesley down into coverage and have woods move into the safety role. _________________ In Andy We Trust!
