but isn't pete rose the only one who has actually been kicked out of baseball?

and for the mcgwire thing, i'm not so sure he'll be in the hall of fame either. he's been taking quite a few shots about that congressional hearing. i think he deserves it because he wasn't breaking any baseball rules at the time, and we can't prove that he took steriods, but i don't think enough of the voters agree with me.

Shoeless Joe Jackson was kicked out as was Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays for a time in the 70's when they had ties to a casino in Atlantic City...Jackson will probably never get back in and of course when Mantle and Mays severed ties with the casino they were reinstated...McGwire did take steroids, he admitted it without actually admitting it in front of congress...he may not have officially broke a baseball rule but he broke the law and its surely enough to stain his legacy in the game IMO.

I voted yes. He should have to wait another 15 years to get in though.

I think he should be inducted into the Hall of Fame, but his plaque should state his actions against the game. I know he is a criminal in society and towards baseball, but America is about second chances, and he admitted his mistakes (all be it to sell a book). Plus, leaving out a legend like him makes me feel unsettled about the HOF.

I disagree completely with putting anything about gambling on his plaque...Mickey Mantle's plaque doesn't mention he played hung over alot of the time...Gaylord Perry's says nothing about him being a spit ball artist...and I'm sure Mark McGwire's will say nothing about his steroid use...so why should Pete be singled out???...I'm not excusing anything he did but if you do it for one you gotta do it for all of them.

None of those things are the most serious crimes in baseball that carry a lifetime ban with them. Gambling does. If he gets into the Hall, it should be noted. That's how I see it.

Betting on baseball is a serious issue, very serious issue as a manager in a position of comprimising the game's integrity. Furthermore, when observing players like Babe Ruth who was a terrible example to society with his partying and portraying the athlete's life as one big party...when you look at Mickey Mantle...who had to take a day off every 5 or 6 days because he was always sick from alcohol poisioning...when you look at all the other people who flawed the outlook on baseball by society, gambling on baseball, when he didn't bet against his own team...does not look nearly as bad as what people in the hall of fame have done before and after him.

As the great Pete Rose said:

I've got a 15-year old son and a 10-year old daughter, and if they were going to do one of the following things: be an alcoholic; be a drug offender; beat their wife or husband; or gamble. I hope they would gamble.

The real shame is Pete Rose will forever be remembered for his accomplishments SECOND, and will always be remembered for his gambling and lifetime ban FIRST. Regardless if he has a plague in Cooperstown or not.

When you hear the name Pete Rose what is the first thing you think of? It ain't hits and RBI's, it is gambling and betting on baseball and getting banned from the MLB.

And that is the real shame.

Just like any criminal is remembered for their actions, it is a self dug grave and nobody else's fault but his own. The real shame is the lack of respect he has shown continuously for the game of baseball.
