The first of many decent players the Reds are going to give away before the deadline.
The minor leaguers they got in return don't appear to be that special.

I lied. It was much later, I don't know how I missed this post of yours. I looked at the top five or so to make sure no one had posted it already. My bad.

This is a good trade for San Diego. Randa is having a great year, with a .289 BA, 13 HR and 48 RBI, and a reasonable salary ($2,150,000). This means they have pretty much given up on Sean Burroughs, who has underachieved this year with a .255 BA, 1 HR and 15 RBI. As for the Reds, this further proves the arguement that the owner isn't interested in winning. The pitchers they picked up were not top prospects...

i think that the reds owner is stepping down in the next year or two...he is one of the top 10 richest guys in america, literally and he won't spend money for the team hardly.
i would have liked to have seen sean burroughs coming over in the deal to the reds, even if he doesn't have much power. he hit .330 last year and has some potential if this reds team is trying to rebuild.

Now it looks like the Twins will have to turn their attention to either Bill Mueller or Sean Burroughs. Shea Hillenbrand is a far out possibility because the Blue Jays are still in the race, so I doubt they would trade him to a team in front of them.

Minor point: Burroughs only hit .298 last season.

Burroughs was struggling and really needs to go to the minors to find his stroke. I think this could really help him and his career out because his confidence seems to be slipping.

au contraire my friend. Joe Randa is 35 and is a FA after this year. The Padres already have 3 important FA's to sign (Hoffman, Giles, Hernandez) and it's not likely they'll be able to sign all of them. So think of Randa as a 1 year rental, unfortuneately for pads fans like myself, we'll have to make a penant run in 06 with burroughs starting at 3rd.
