In all fairness to Victor Zambrano, the only reason he doesn't have a good record this season is because of the Mets poor offense. He only has two starts this season in which he has allowed 4 or more earned runs. His last start against the Dodgers was one of them, the other one was way back on April 24th. He actually has eleven (11) quality starts so far this season. His problem has been his command. He has 69 strikeouts, but has walked 54 batters. His pitch count tends to be high, which is why he doesn't go extremely deep into the game. He actually has had fifteen (15) starts this season in which he went 5+ innings and allowed 3 or less earned runs. His 3.86 ERA is pretty good. All Victor Zambrano needs is run support.
About Scott Kazmir though, he is said to be a very good pitching prospect. However, the reason that the Mets did this deal is because quite often, the prospects that they trade don't really do anything in the majors. So it really never comes back to haunt them like it does other teams.
EDIT: Opposing batters are hitting .252 off of him, which is respectable. He's just had tough luck. _________________

They were panicking and they made one of the worst trades in their history. I have watched Kazmir, on the road, shut down the Red Sox and Yankees. Kazmir should have never been traded, but if they still went through with it, they could have had Tim Hudson or Mark Mulder. Mets fans will be in pain for soemtime when this guy matures into a great ML pitcher. |
