run first qb's like vince young should be avoided at all costs. thats why you draft rb's. yes they will get you rush yards and an occasional rush td, but what you will lose in return from the average 120 passing yards and 1 int game will never let you win a championship......

I ahve Bulger on three of my five teams. I sthink he will have a fine season. I've stuck by Bulger the past 4 years and aside from last year, which was an absolute car wreck (injuries to him, the line, his rb, etc) he's always done pretty good for me, and comes at a good pricetag of round 5 usually.

It depends on how you score. I play in two leagues that score a little differently. The first scores 1 point/ 15 yards rushing and 1 point/ 50 yards passing. The other scores 1 point/ 10 yards rushing and 1 point/ 25 yards passing.

League 1.

75 rushing yards + 150 passing yards + 1 rushing TD + 1 passing TD = 20

for a traditional pocket passer, his stats would be

400 passing yards + 2 passing TDs = 20

League 2

80 rushing yards + 150 passing yards + 1 rushing TD + 1 passing TD = 26

pocket passer

350 passing yards + 2 passing TDs = 26

To say that a "run first QB should be avoided at all costs" is a little bit of an exaggeration. Though they're becoming rare (Mike Vick was the most prolific and he will no longer be in the league), I still think a QB that can break for 30 and 40 yards can be an asset as a tier 3 starter considering there is a reason why you end up with that grade of QB in the first place (either by hoarding RBs and WRs in the draft or an injury to your #1 QB).

I think Vince Young's case is a little different. The guy actually wants to pass but for whatever reason, the Titans have not been successful in getting him quality receiving talent. Besides, the Tennessee Titans seem to be a "run first" offense which I would say is more important to avoid than a "run first" QB. Unlike other QBs who have no great receivers, he can actually compensate statistically because he can run; something that Alex Smith, Rex Grossman or Josh McDown can't do.

You make a solid argument, But without getting into a long winded response, let me just say that no league Ive ever played in has a team won with vick/vince young/randell cunningham(yes I go back a ways)
or any other run first qb leading the team (not gonna include steve young here). So no matter how you crunch the numbers, I will always believe that it can't be done.
