Also think JV should be Cy Young over Price.
He has lower WHIP, BA against and has 1 more BB in 27 IP.
Overall he has a lower BB/9 and higher K/9
The ERA difference of .08 is minimal.
Plus JV helped get Tigers into playoffs _________________

I've been hard on Leyland before but gotta love that interview.
I think I heard he is only the 2nd manager to bring us to the Playoffs 3 times and 1st time we've gone to the Playoffs back to back years since like the 1930's..crazy _________________

See, i sort of disagree with this. I would say the collection of talent has gotten us to the playoffs in back to back years. Leyland was just lucky enough to be along for the ride. We underperformed this year, our bull pen has been mismanaged, and we still saw way too much of Raburn and Kelly. I dont think Leyland had much to do with our starters having the best era over the last month, thats just talent. _________________

So many parallels with a certain coach from the 80's.
I know I am going to regret it, but I replied in the Miggy vs Trout thread. I think my defense against ignorance will be to never read another reply in that thread _________________

I cant believe how out of control the MVP thread got. I also can't believe how over used WAR is. _________________

It certainly did get out of hand but thankfully the mods/webmaster took care of it.
WAR can be used too much as it is really hard to quantify the intangibles in a game no matter how many different stats are used. That being said I still believe that Trout should get the award. Even though I am a huge Tigers fan I cannot bring myself to overlook the incredible overall skills that Trout has exhibited this season.
Winning a triple crown is a magnificent accomplishment but in my eyes it does not automatically equate to an mvp, especially since I don't value rbis as much as many do. This is really hard to say because Miggy has had an amazing last several of years and I think he deserves SOMETHING geez! The guy has been amazing his whole career. |

Completely agree. Some people now think it's the only stat anyone ever should go by regarding how good baseball players are. Also if you don't use it then you are looked down upon by the arrogance of others as if that's the only stat that matters. Yet just a few years ago it didn't even exist. Gee, not sure how people were able make arguments then without referencing it. I've got no problem with fans mentioning it but they do go overboard with it.
Congrats on your division title Tiger fans. Living somewhat close to Erie, which is the home of the Tigers AA team, I keep tuned in to what the Tigers do since they show their highlights on the Erie television stations. I've always been a Leyland fan since his days in Pittsburgh. Best of luck in the playoffs. _________________

Bring it on Athletics! I want the Tigers to play the Orioles afterward just so they can crush the feel good stories of the year |

I think we can still play Baltimore if today the Yankees lose, Baltimore wins, and Baltimore beats the Yankees in the tiebreak. I think the A's would take the 1 seed, and then Baltimore would be the 2. _________________

You are correct. Thankfully the Red Sox are awful and this will not come to be:) |

We get the A's. Verlander set to start Game 1 at 5 (might be 6, don't feel like double checking right now) on Saturday. Not going to take the A's lightly at all. They won one of the best divisions in baseball and are a scrappy bunch but I do like our chances with Verlander/Fister/Scherzer/Sanchez.
Hopefully Leyland doesn't mess around with the lineup either. Just throw out:
1. CF Jackson
2. LF Dirks
3. 3B Cabrera
4. 1B Fielder
5. DH Young (I KNOW Leyland won't drop him)
6. C Avila (against righties)/Laird (against lefties)
7. SS Peralta
8. 2B Infante
9. RF Berry/Garcia (depending on the match up
Should be a great series. _________________

I'll be in Sarnia this weekend and can swing by Detroit on Sunday.
Any suggestions on how I should get tickets to Game 2? I've bought them online before but can I just rely on scalpers? I'd be looking at the cheapest seats.
No offense to Detroit fans but I go to Detroit multiple times a year usually and it seems tickets are always available, even though it is playoffs. _________________ Legends Never Die. They Breathe Through The New Generation.
